Position Summary
AI Engineer – design, develop, test, and maintain artificial intelligence tools and applications supporting NRC research and operational activities. The role is part of a multidisciplinary team that applies modern AI techniques and software engineering practices.
Work Arrangements
Hybrid work arrangement may be eligible: combination of on‑site and telework. Indigenous candidates may be eligible for an exception. Alternative work arrangements may also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse client requirements and translate them into AI‑based solutions; document findings and recommend approaches under supervision.
- Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain AI tools and applications across various technology platforms.
- Develop programming specifications, write and optimise code (HTML, CSS, C#, Python, etc.), and produce technical documentation such as user guides and data model descriptions.
- Participate in the selection, installation, configuration, testing, and modification of AI development tools and frameworks; ensure compliance with programming and ethical AI standards.
- Collaborate on project teams and lead AI initiatives or projects.
Qualifications – Education
- A university or college degree in Computer Sciences or a college diploma in Computer Sciences or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Qualifications – Experience
- At least 2 years of experience developing and maintaining generative AI tools and applications using modern programming languages and frameworks.
- Experience with HTML, CSS, Python, and C#.
- Experience with large language models and related orchestration frameworks and agents.
- Experience conducting testing, debugging, and documentation for application systems.
Other Requirements
- Reliability Status: verification of background information over a period of 5 years is required.
- Language Requirement: English.
Assessment Criteria
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies in generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing, and responsible AI practices.
- Knowledge of scripting and programming.
- Ability to research and analyze complex IT issues and provide sound advice and expertise to clients, other team members, and management.
- Ability to write technical documents.
- Communication, conceptual and analytical ability, initiative, self‑knowing and self‑development, teamwork.
Compensation
Pay range: $86,503 to $108,068 per annum. Benefits include a robust pension plan, comprehensive health and dental coverage, disability and life insurance, office closure at the end of December, and additional supports to enhance well‑being throughout your career.
