About Guelph General Hospital (GGH)

GGH is an acute care hospital dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services to the residents of Guelph and Wellington County. As a dynamic and comprehensive healthcare organization, GGH offers a full spectrum of medical, surgical, critical care, maternal-child, and emergency services in a collaborative and patient-centered environment.

The hospital is equipped with a closed 12-bed Critical Care Unit and Step-Down Unit, providing advanced care for critically ill patients. GGH’s busy Obstetrics Program supports approximately 1,800 deliveries each year, serving growing families throughout the region. In addition to 24/7 emergency services and advanced diagnostic capabilities, GGH is recognized as a regional

provider of vascular surgery, a Level III Trauma Centre, and a designated Provincial Bariatric Centre of Excellence.

Private on-call rooms—including a bed, desk, TV, bathroom, fridge, microwave and lockers—are available for physicians who choose to stay overnight at the hospital.

Department Summary

The Department of Anesthesiology is currently seeking highly motivated Anesthesiologists on a full time basis (preferably), but part time options are available. Currently the department is made up of (11) Anesthesiologists and multiple locums, sharing all clinical duties including on call assignments. This position is an independent fee for service structure for OHIP billing plus the applicable on call stipends and (potential) departmental stipends. We are temporarily offering travel stipends of up to $750 dollars per day for those joining us to support our surgical program.

Interested Family Practice Anesthesia (FPA) applicants will have immediate access to clinical support whenever needed. Operating room schedules are tailored to align with each physician’s experience, skills, and comfort level, ensuring a supportive practice environment. For those interested in expanding their scope, opportunities for progressive skill development can also be accommodated.

Academic Opportunities

This position offers an exceptional opportunity for an Anesthesiologists seeking a dynamic clinical role with meaningful academic engagement. In addition to providing high-quality anesthetic care within a collaborative departmental environment, the successful candidate may pursue an optional academic appointment with the McMaster University Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, enabling extensive involvement in teaching, mentorship, and learner development.

Experience and Skills

• Eligibility for a Certificate of Registration in Anesthesiology with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).

• Maintain in good standing registration with the CPSO

Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in Anesthesiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

o Temporary supervision may be considered on a case-by-case basis for eligible candidates completing requirements.

• Anesthesia Post Graduate Fifth Year Residents (PGY5) who will meet the above conditions are encouraged to apply.

• American Board–certified Anesthesiologists eligible for CPSO registration through Pathway A

• Family Practice Anesthesiologists are welcome to apply for abundant locum opportunities.
