Job Overview
Position: Civil Aviation Safety Inspector (CASI) – Airworthiness. Reference number: MOT25J-009098-000051. Selection process number: 25-MOT-EA-HRS-05090. Department: Transport Canada – Civil Aviation, located in Hamilton, Mississauga, Ottawa, Thunder Bay, and Toronto, Ontario.
Salary range: $101,373 to $118,477 (TI-06 – Aviation). Closing date: 3 July 2026, 23:59 Pacific Time. Eligible applicants: Persons residing in Canada, Canadian citizens and permanent residents abroad.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspection activities of approved organizations.
- Write inspection reports and follow up on areas of concern.
- Review and approve company documentation related to aircraft operation and maintenance policies and procedures.
- Inspect and certify applicants for AMO, ATO, Air Operator, Manufacturer, and AME licences.
- Investigate and provide technical support for aviation incidents, accidents, and continuing airworthiness.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, exercise good judgment, and make decisions based on risk.
- Influence change and respond to stressful situations.
- Travel locally, regionally, and nationally as required.
Qualifications
- Education: A secondary school diploma or employer‑approved alternative (satisfactory PSC test score or acceptable combination of education, training, and experience).
- Occupational Certification: Valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) licence.
- Experience: Recent experience (within last 7 years) working as a licensed AME with a certifying authority in a Canadian maintenance or manufacturing organization, performing complex activities under varied conditions.
- Asset Qualifications: Experience in one or more of the following – rotorcraft operations (airline, air taxi or recreational aircraft); fixed‑wing operations (airline, air taxi or recreational aircraft); manufacturing; avionics maintenance and repair; non‑destructive testing; repair or modification of structures (sheet metal, tubular, composite); supervision or management of quality programmes.
- Language Requirements: English essential; bilingual proficiency mandatory (English‑French).
- Competencies: Demonstrating integrity and respect; initiative and action orientation; teamwork; critical thinking; digital literacy.
- Abilities: Ability to interpret and apply regulations and standards (e.g., Aeronautics Act, Canadian Aviation Regulations); effective written and oral communication.
- Organizational Needs: Preference for applicants who self‑declare belonging to an employment equity group (Aboriginal peoples, persons with a disability, visible minorities, women).
- Conditions of Employment: Willingness to work occasional overtime outside core hours, perform inspections in hazardous environments, travel regionally, nationally, and occasionally internationally; possess secret security clearance; valid motor vehicle licence; valid passport.
