Senior Firmware Developer

The purpose of the Senior Firmware Developer is to lead Titan firmware development projects, mentoring junior staff members and providing senior level advisory to the Embedded Systems Team Lead , including planning, scheduling, and coordinating tasks across teams using Agile/Scrum methods

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in embedded software systems, applied to telecom, radio, Industrial IoT, and B2B related products, including mentorship for junior team members.
• Maintain and extend current and develop new solutions by designing, implementing, and testing firmware.
• Develop plans for firmware architecture including interface design, and RTOS design (tasks, queues)
• Demonstrate expertise in code optimization with firmware systems for performance, memory usage, and power consumption.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, software developers, and QA analysts to ensure cohesive system integration, defining firmware architecture of embedded systems, supporting project implementation, design and code reviews.
• Lead quality assurance, writing and conducting unit test procedures, integration and system-level test procedures in both real and simulated vehicles.
• Maintain industry coding standards are followed, demonstrating advanced skills in debugging firmware issues and identify areas for code improvements.
• Understand and remain current with the various industry standards (SAE, ISO) and regulatory standards (CMVSS/FMVSS, FCC, IC) affecting ECU designs.
• Implement and manage firmware updates and bootloaders.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation for firmware design, development, and user manuals.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 10+ years industry experience as firmware developer, 5+ years in firmware design and architecture, specifically experience in designing, developing, and debugging embedded systems firmware.

Technical Knowledge Requirements:

• Microcontrollers and microprocessors: Deep knowledge of various microcontroller and microprocessor architectures (e.g., ARM, AVR, PIC, MSP430, ESP32).
• Communication protocols: Expertise in communication protocols like UART, RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and wireless protocols (e.g., BLE, Wi-Fi).
• Hardware interaction: Experience with hardware interfaces, peripherals, and troubleshooting hardware issues.
• Firmware development tools: Proficiency with IDEs, debuggers, emulators, and other firmware development tools (e.g., JTAG, ICE).
• Low-level programming: Strong understanding of low-level programming, including interrupt handling, memory management, and register-level programming.
• Programming languages: Proficiency in C, C++, Assembly, and familiarity with scripting languages such as Python.
• Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS): Experience with RTOS such as FreeRTOS, VxWorks, or similar.
• Embedded Linux: Experience with developing firmware on embedded Linux platforms including custom kernel development, device drivers, and application development.
• Experience designing multithreaded distributed systems, using IPC, sockets.
• Good understanding of networking concepts (topologies, switching, routing) and network protocols (ETH, UDP, TCP, TLS).

Pay: From $110,000.00 per year
