Job Description: Transmission Security Engineer

Role Descriptions

• Design and implement security architectures for transmission networks (optical, DWDM, IPMPLS, microwave, and metrobackbone networks)
• Lead security hardening of transmission equipment, including routers, switches, optical transport systems, and network management platforms
• Implement and maintain encryption technologies (MACsec, IPsec, optical layer encryption)
• Perform risk assessments, threat modeling, and vulnerability analysis for transmission infrastructure
• Ensure compliance with security frameworks, standards, and regulatory requirements (ISO 27001, NIST, SOC, PCI where applicable)
• Develop and enforce transmission security policies, standards, and operating procedures
• Lead incident response and root cause analysis for transmission-related security events
• Collaborate with Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, SOC, and Architecture teams to integrate security into network designs
• Support audits, penetration testing, and remediation activities
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership
• Engage with vendors for secure product selection, testing, and lifecycle management
• Participate in network transformation initiatives (cloud connectivity, SDNNFV, 5G transport, zero trust)

Essential Skills

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of transmission technologies:

  • Optical DWDM
  • OTN
  • MPLS
  • IP backbone
  • Microwave and carrier-grade Ethernet

• Expertise in network security:

  • IPsec
  • MACsec
  • TLS
  • PKI
• Key management systems and encryption lifecycle
• Deep understanding of Layer 13 security risks and controls
• Experience with firewalling, ACLs, routing security (BGP security, prefix filtering)
• Familiarity with network monitoring, SIEM, and logging tools
• Experience securing NMS, OSSBSS, and EMS platforms

Experience

• 8+ years in telecom, network security, or transmission engineering
• Proven experience securing large-scale carrier or enterprise networks
• Hands-on experience with major OEMs (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Ciena, Huawei, Infinera as applicable)

Certifications (Preferred)

• CISSP, CISM, or CCSP
• CCNP / CCIE Security or Service Provider
• GIAC, CEH, or equivalent security certifications
