Position Overview

BDC is the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs, supporting the growth of small and medium‑size businesses across Canada. As Manager, Portfolio Management, you contribute to the ongoing management of the Bank’s loan portfolio by processing service requests and completing annual reviews throughout the loan lifecycle. You provide advanced financial analysis and risk evaluation while collaborating with Business Development teams to deliver effective client solutions, thereby directly supporting the success of Canadian businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Follow up on outstanding file items in accordance with BDC audit policies, ensuring documentation is accurate, complete, and properly authorized.
  • Complete annual portfolio reviews by validating profitability, monitoring borrowing activities, and identifying additional financing or advisory opportunities.
  • Analyze financial statements, perform detailed financial analysis, and assess risk ratings.
  • Identify and actively manage risk situations (e.g., arrears, declining performance, credit deterioration).
  • Evaluate complex and high‑risk service requests and recommend solutions to restructure agreements and mitigate potential losses.
  • Authorize, decline, or recommend service requests within established limits, ensuring high‑quality analysis and due diligence.
  • Collaborate with Credit teams, Business Centres, and internal stakeholders to ensure consistent policy application and effective client solutions.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues to support teamwork and shared objectives.
  • Coach and mentor team members by sharing expertise and best practices.
  • Monitor regional economic trends and assess potential impacts on clients and portfolio performance.
  • Stay current on changes in policies, procedures, and credit/regulatory trends impacting lending practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience as an Account Manager (or similar role) in the banking or financial services sector.
  • Experience analyzing financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Experience performing financial analysis and credit risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of banking products, services, and lending processes.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial structures and loan arrangements.
  • Ability to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with demonstrated sound judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective collaboration and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingualism in French and English.
  • Experience with loan portfolio management and annual review processes.
  • Experience handling complex or high‑risk credit files.
