About The Chang School

The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education is Canada’s foremost provider of university‑based adult education, facilitating access to the University’s renowned, professionally relevant courses and programs. Since 1975, we have been delivering leading‑edge workplace knowledge that empowers learners to reach their personal and professional goals. We have approximately 70,000 annual enrolments (in 1,500 courses, seminars, and workshops) in Arts; Business; Communication and Design; Community Services; Engineering, Architecture, and Science; Gateway for International Professionals; Programs for 50+; and Spanning the Gaps – Access to Post‑Secondary Education. We also offer 86 career‑related certificate programs and numerous course series, with 39 certificate programs that can be completed entirely at a distance. Our flexible, accessible programming is available on campus, via distance education, and off‑site for employee groups at leading organizations.

We’re looking for someone to join the Data & Business Analytics team, a team that works closely with The Chang School’s many talented teams to play a key role in helping us move forward on this mandate.

The Opportunity

Role

The Data Analytics & Integration Developer will play a key role in uncovering actionable insights from a high volume and varied sources of data to help improve the overall student experience, streamline operational processes, and facilitate informed decision‑making by collaborating with multiple teams to extract data, develop reports, visualizations, and processes.

• Collaborating with various Chang School teams (Data & Business Analytics, IT Operations, Applications, Finance, Marketing, etc.), using industry best practices and current technologies, to extract data from various sources and develop meaningful reports, data visualizations, and processes.
• Developing, maintaining, and enhancing systems including databases, reporting solutions, and Data Integration / Extract‑Transform‑Load (ETL) processes.
• Providing training and user support on dashboards/reports and other business analytics solutions.

The successful candidate will work in a hybrid work environment (combining in‑person/on‑campus and remote work).

Responsibilities

• Supporting business analytics reporting and analysis within The Chang School by:
  • Soliciting requirements from end users for data analysis requests, new reports, and new dashboards.
  • Creating complex queries, dashboards, and datasets for use by internal customers.
  • Analyzing and assessing trends from data to provide insights and recommendations.
• Support end users within The Chang School by:
  • Providing guidance and technical support on dashboards, self‑serve reporting, and other business analytics solutions.
  • Developing technical artifacts describing the functionality of business analytics platforms, data flow between systems, and explaining technical concepts in simple terms for business to easily grasp them.
  • Following best practices for standard presentation formats, documentation, and reports.
• Support data integration functions with the department by
  • Loading OLAP cube structures with data extracts from internal systems.
  • Designing, developing, and scheduling data integration processes to transfer information needed for business analytics and reporting.
  • Troubleshooting data integration procedures in the event of a job failure or other technical issue.
  • Creating technical artifacts to help business grasp technical concepts with ease and provide analogies.
• Provides backup and assistance to other members of the department.

Qualifications

To help us learn more about you, please provide a one‑page cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

• Successful completion of a post‑secondary degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of work experience in:
  • Data Integration/ETL, Querying Data, Data Visualization and Report/Dashboard Development
  • Collaborating with business users to gather requirements, impart training and explain technical concepts in business‑friendly language
• Strong knowledge of the following skills:
  • Microsoft Data/business intelligence suite – SQL Server, SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services), SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services).
  • Experience using similar database systems/stacks from major vendors (e.g., Oracle, IBM, Microsoft Azure Analysis Services, Teradata, etc.) would be considered.
  • Data Query languages – SQL, Multi‑Dimensional Expression (MDX).
  • Experience using Data Analysis Expression (DAX) / PowerQuery M for Tabular SSAS models / Power BI would be considered.
  • Reporting/Data Visualization tool(s) – Tableau preferred.
  • Experience in Power BI, Qlikview, and/or another leading reporting tool would be considered.
• Nice‑to‑have skills:
  • Some programming skills – Python, Excel VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).
  • Experience dealing with data from complex enterprise systems, such as financial systems, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, student information systems (SIS), enterprise resource planning systems (ERP), etc.
• Strong analytic skills and logical thinking to assess trends from data to provide insights and proactively share findings with stakeholders and other areas.
• Solid oral and written communication skills, especially technical writing experience for diverse non‑technical audiences.
• Highly organized with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives/projects concurrently, and meet changing requirements/priorities to accomplish objectives.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners; collaborate across organizational boundaries with various functions and coordinate with vendors.
