Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment that combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Originally developed to support individuals experiencing suicidal ideation, self-harm, significant emotional dysregulation, and relationship difficulties, DBT helps participants build practical coping strategies and create a more fulfilling life.

 
The Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Facilitator- Case Management is responsible for delivering intake screening, assessment, psychoeducation, skills-based counselling and treatment, case management, individual coaching (as appropriate), group facilitation, documentation, and follow-up services for individuals participating in CMHA Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services' DBT programs.

Supporting participants in both the DBT Intensive Skills Program and the Life Worth Living Program, the DBT Facilitator provides evidence-based interventions through virtual and/or in-person service delivery. Key responsibilities include assessing program suitability, facilitating DBT skills groups, offering individual support when appropriate, monitoring participant progress, maintaining clinical records, collaborating with community partners, and contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

In addition, the DBT Facilitator serves as a clinical resource within the organization, promoting DBT-informed practice through education, consultation, and knowledge sharing with staff across programs and services.

  WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • What you'll be making -  Starting rate for this role is $30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated:
    • Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($37.26 per hour); for internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement
  • When you'll work - 70 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm.
  • Your pension plan –Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

  HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

Intake, Information and Referral:

  • Process referrals and waitlist management 
  • Conduct screenings and assessments to determine eligibility and appropriateness for DBT programming. 
  • Assess participant readiness, treatment goals, symptom severity, existing supports, previous DBT experience, and risk factors. 
  • Provide information regarding available DBT program streams, expectations, attendance requirements, and treatment commitments. 
  • Facilitate referrals and transitions to internal and external services as appropriate. 
  • Maintain communication with participants regarding program enrollment, scheduling, attendance, and service navigation. 
  • Deliver services virtually by videoconference, telephone, and in person, as required.

Assessment, Education and Treatment Function:

  • Actively contribute to DBT program development, quality improvement initiatives, clinical projects, and service enhancements. 
  • Complete program stream screening to determine participant suitability and placement within available DBT services. 
  • Administer, score, and interpret program evaluation tools and clinical measures, including pre- and post-treatment assessments, Ways of Coping questionnaires, participant outcome measures, and other standardized screening tools as required. 
  • Conduct ongoing risk assessments and safety planning throughout a participant's involvement in treatment, including assessment of suicide risk, self-harm behaviours, and other clinical concerns. 
  • Monitor treatment progress and evaluate participant outcomes using established program metrics and evidence-informed practices. 
  • Co-facilitate the DBT Intensive Skills Program and Life Worth Living Program. 
  • Deliver psychoeducation related to mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, behavioural activation, and relapse prevention strategies. 
  • Provide individual coaching, case management support, and treatment planning where appropriate.
  • Review assessment findings and collaborate with participants to develop individualized treatment goals and service plans. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation related to assessments, treatment interventions, participant progress, risk management, and program outcomes. 
  • Provide consultation and recommendations to colleagues and community partners regarding participant needs, treatment planning, and appropriate service pathways when required.
  • Provide education and consultation to agency staff and community partners regarding DBT principles, skills, and best practices.

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements
Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 4 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

 
We require the following qualifications:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Social Work, Social Service Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychotherapy, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, or another mental health and addiction related field. (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Currently registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (as an RSW, RSSW), the College of Nurses of Ontario, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Valid Driver’s License: G class required 
  • Access to a vehicle required for personal transportation 
  • Transportation of clients in personal vehicle required; two million-dollar ($2 000 000.00) liability insurance required
  • Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

  We prefer the following qualifications:

  • Current certification in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is considered a strong asset. 
  • Candidates actively working toward DBT certification will be considered. 
  • Evidence of completed DBT coursework, foundational training, intensive training, or other related professional development is required. 
  • Current ASIST and/or SafeTALK training is an asset. 
  • Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification is an asset. 
  • Training in suicide risk assessment and safety planning is preferred. 
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset. 
  • Training in trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented practice is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment, exercising sound clinical judgment, strong decision-making skills, and effective problem-solving abilities in complex and dynamic situations.
  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience providing mental health assessment, treatment, crisis intervention, and case management services. 
  • Experience facilitating psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, preferably DBT-informed groups.
