The Opportunity
The Marine Asset Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining all marine assets within the BSG group of companies. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of marine engineering, vessel maintenance, and project management principles. They will be responsible for ensuring all assets and inventory are tracked and maintained utilizing our planned maintenance system. They will be highly proficient in fleet management, vessel refits, and equipment upgrades. The Marine Asset Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, procurement, and external vendors to achieve project objectives on time and within budget and ensure compliance within fleet regulatory and planned maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Directly reporting to the President, and project specific Operations Managers, responsibilities, and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
Vessel Fleet Management:
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize the use of the planned maintenance systems across all assets, including vessels of different sizes and purpose, barges, marine facilities etc.
- Coordinate vessel maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Monitor vessel performance, safety compliance, regulatory requirements - including technical requirements of vessel/asset importation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize vessel utilization, minimize downtime, and reduce operating costs.
Vessel Refits and Upgrades:
- Plan, execute, and manage vessel refits, conversions, and equipment upgrades.
- Conduct feasibility research and define project scopes, objectives, and deliverables.
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure timely completion of refit projects.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and safety protocols.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Prepare project budgets and cost estimates in collaboration with the finance team.
- Monitor project expenses, track costs, and implement cost control measures.
- Review and approve invoices, change orders, and vendor contracts.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Liaise with internal departments, including engineering, operations, and procurement, to gather project requirements and ensure seamless project execution.
- Foster strong relationships with external vendors, contractors, and classification societies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues and ensure adherence to project timelines.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
- Generate progress reports, project status updates, and presentations for management.
- Conduct post-project evaluations to identify areas for improvement and best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Technical/Marine Project Manager or a similar role in the marine industry.
- Strong knowledge of marine engineering principles, vessel operations, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficient in project management methodologies and tools.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong financial insight and budget management skills.
- Familiarity with vessel refits, upgrades, and maintenance procedures.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications and project management software.
