Staff Nurse - Renal B5

The Role

Ward 4C is a friendly 15-bed renal surgical and kidney transplant ward. The unit performs approximately 150 kidney transplants each year and is recognised as a centre of excellence for renal dialysis vascular access creation. The Renal Assessment Unit (RAU) is also based within Ward 4C, with both teams working closely together to provide seamless patient care for a specialised renal patient population.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, 1 full-time, 1 part-time

1x 36 hours 1x 18 hours

Shift pattern - Long days and nights

Base location - Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for a designated group of renal patients before, during and after surgery.
• Assess patient needs and plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based programmes of care.
• Support patients preparing for surgery in partnership with the wider renal, anaesthetic and theatre teams.
• Care for post-operative patients following kidney transplantation and renal vascular access surgery.
• Undertake the technical aspects of care required for the role following appropriate training.
• Work collaboratively within the nursing and multidisciplinary team to maintain a consistently high standard of patient care.
• Contribute to a positive, supportive and patient-focused ward environment.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Local renal transplant training programmes.
• Haemodialysis training programmes.
• Education on all aspects of renal transplantation.
• Training in immunotherapy medications.
• Care and management of tunnelled central venous catheters (TCVCs).
• Cannulation of arteriovenous (AV) fistulas.
• Operation of NIKKISO dialysis machines.
• Commitment to teamwork and maintaining a positive, friendly atmosphere within the unit.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Evidence of continuous learning and professional development is desirable.
