LOCATION :661 Main Street

Main Street Project (MSP) is a community health Centre with a mandate to address the social determinants of health which give rise to issues of addiction physical and mental health issues and homelessness. MSP uses housing-first and harm reduction principles in the provision of a safe respectful and accessible place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in the community. Since 1972 MSP has been providing a range of services to Winnipegs most marginalized residents including emergency shelter and nutrition services drug and alcohol withdrawal management services health advocacy and support case management services housing support services food bank services and a mobile community outreach program.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting onboarding coordinating and supporting volunteers across Main Street Project. The position maintains volunteer records and communication coordinates volunteer groups and recognition activities and supports the development and growth of the volunteer program.

The Volunteer Coordinator works with the Donations & Clothing Store Coordinator during busy periods particularly around holiday and seasonal donation drives to coordinate volunteer support and ensure projects are well organized.

Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding

• Review volunteer applications and respond to applicants
• Conduct volunteer information sessions
• Provide first-day orientation and review the volunteer manual
• Follow up after a volunteers first day
• Create a plan to grow the volunteer program

Volunteer Coordination & Administration

• Maintain Better Impact and volunteer records
  • Criminal Record Checks/Vulnerable Sector Checks as required
  • Adult Abuse Registry checks are required.
• Train volunteers on Volunteer Software Better Impact/My Impact
• Keep the volunteer calendar and opportunities accurate and up to date
• Host volunteer groups in all the programs
• Provide direction and support to volunteers
• Attend weekly meeting

Volunteer Communication

• Support Email for weekly volunteer opportunities.
• Send thank-you letters to volunteers and volunteer groups.
• Follow up with volunteers who have not attended for an extended period.
• Review archived volunteers and invite suitable volunteers to return.
• Conduct six-month volunteer surveys.
• Coordinate volunteer recognition and appreciation activities.
• Work alongside the clothing Store and donations coordinator

Recreational Programing

• Facilitate recreation programming with volunteers
• Create an engaging and welcoming environment for community members and volunteers

Volunteer and Donations Collaboration

Clothing Store Volunteer Support

• Assign volunteer tasks and provide directions.
• Ensure volunteers are supervised by staff at all times.
• Train volunteers on safety procedures including walkie-talkie use where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively to ensure volunteers are supported across both programs.
• Facilitate volunteer groups assisting with Donations or Clothing Store projects.
• Communicate program changes and operational needs to one another.
• Maintain a professional welcoming and respectful experience for volunteers donors and participants.
• Identify opportunities to improve both programs.

Support Initiatives and Clothing Drives

• Coordinate volunteer groups
• Create a list of participating donors businesses and volunteer groups to send thank-you letters.

Additional Requirements

• Satisfactory Criminal Record with clear Vulnerable Sector Search and a clear Adult Abuse Registry Check is required. The employee is responsible for any service charges incurred.
