About us: The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships withinstitutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas. The Canadian Urban Environmental Health Research Consortium (CANUE) is Canada's environmental exposure data hub. Led out of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, CANUE includes members affiliated with more than 15 Universities across Canada as well as key representatives from non-governmental organizations and federal, provincial and local government. CANUE develops and delivers environmental data to support health research across the country. CANUE also develops and publishes web-based tools enabling mapping, analysis and reporting on the distribution of health-relevant environmental exposures and environmental inequities in cities across Canada. CANUE's mandate is to develop spatial measures of urbanization for every postal code in Canada, with the aim of supporting research, advocacy and policy targeting the impacts of environmental exposuresand urban form on human health. Your opportunity: As the CANUE Web Developer, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of future and existing web-based GIS applications. You will also be responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of large geospatial databases, processing of geospatial datasets, and development of application programming interfaces (API). Your responsibilities will include:

• Analyzing geospatial data and making recommendations for software optimization changes
• Developing technical application implementation plans
• Testing new IT tools and recommending improvements to the existing tools
• Writing pieces of technical information for a project plan
• Designing, testing, and modifying programming code, including writing programming code structures based on user requirements
• Developing and maintaining project quality control standards
• Training end users on procedures and new system features

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Geomatics or Computer Science or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience
• Minimum four (4) years of experience in web development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript), with a focus on web-based GIS applications.
• Knowledge of geospatial libraries and tools (e.g. Mapbox, Leaflet)
• Strong analytical skills and understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remotely sensed data, and geospatial data forms (e.g. GeoJSON, shapefiles, raster datasets)
• Familiarity with QGIS, ArcGIS, and related geospatial libraries
• Demonstrated experience writing technical information for project plans
• Strong experience writing programming code, including testing
• Demonstrated facilitation skills.

• Proven organization skills
• Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, and tact and maintain a strict standard of confidentiality

Assets (Nonessential):

• Masters Degree
• Experience with Ubuntu-based server environments, apache web servers, and bash scripting
• Experience with cloud infrastructure
• Experience with version control systems (i.e. GitHub)
