1D System Simulation Engineer

We are currently recruiting for an experienced System Simulation Engineer to join our team supporting our client in the Automotive Industry. This onsite position in Windsor, ON requires the ability to travel to the USA without restrictions, effective from the start date.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a qualified candidate for the position of System Simulation Engineer within the Propulsion Virtual Thermal Management (VTM) team. The candidate will focus on thermal management systems, including air-conditioning (A/C), engine, battery, and cabin cooling, using primarily one-dimensional simulation tools. Responsibilities include:

• Independently execute 1D and coupled 1D–3D simulations from data acquisition through analysis and report generation.
• Collaborate closely with system engineers to provide simulation-driven insights, numerical solutions, and recommendations for design improvements.
• Obtain data from various sources, perform analyses, and produce detailed reports.
• Extensively interact with system engineers, suggesting design improvements based on simulation results.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on Thermofluid/simulation.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with 1D tools such as Amesim, Flowmaster, Kuli, AVL Cruise, Matlab/Simulink.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in applied CFD using tools such as ANSA, STAR-CCM+, or TAITherm.
• Strong fundamental knowledge of Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Heat Transfer.
• Good knowledge of automotive systems and component functionality.
• Ability to work in cross‑functional teams with a proactive approach.
• Working knowledge of system bench/dynamometer testing and vehicle drive cell testing.
• Willingness and ability to travel to the US for meetings.
• Self‑motivated with attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience presenting to senior management.
• Team player who can also work independently and possesses strong problem‑solving ability.
• Proficiency in Office software.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• 3+ years in vehicle/powertrain thermal management, including powertrain cooling, climate control, or thermal protection.
• Experience with simulation integration and validation using Model‑in‑the‑Loop (MiL) and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HiL).
• Knowledge of advanced control algorithms, including classical and AI-based approaches.
• Experience in automotive HVAC, engine system design, and development.
• Familiarity with CAD tools, optimization, and DoE methods.
• Demonstrated capability in methodology development and technical problem solving.
• Experience in controls modeling and co‑simulation frameworks (MATLAB/Simulink, GT‑TAITherm).
• Working knowledge of system bench testing, dynamometer testing, and vehicle test cells.
