Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join our CAO's Office - Information Technology Division as a GIS Technician - IT. Position Type: Permanent Full Time

Salary: CUPE Jurisdiction A, Grade 8 $32.19 - $37.00 per hour
Closing Date:  Monday, October 5, 2026  at 4:30 PM PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Reporting to the GIS Supervisor, the GIS Technician is responsible for creating, maintaining, updating, and quality-checking geospatial data, preparing digital and hard-copy mapping products, and supporting GIS applications and datasets for City departments and shared service partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will:

• Support the on-going creation and maintenance of the City of Belleville corporate geospatial data and associated databases.
• Ensure a high level of data integrity and accuracy for new and/or revised geospatial datasets through daily input, analysis and editing.
• Assist with the preparation of standard and custom mapping products (digital and paper maps, data analysis and other related information) as requested from municipal staff, the general public and various agencies.
• Support the GIS Analyst with data publishing, and the development, maintenance and customization of corporate GIS applications.
• Support Engineering and Development Services with the maintenance of 911 addressing and geospatial data.
• Prepare and package necessary GIS data for outside agencies and consultants.
• Ensure the accuracy and currency of GIS data published on the City of Belleville GIS Hub.
• Continuously provide updates to “Community Maps” to ensure accurate basemap data when applicable.
• Provide occasional GIS technical assistance, training and support, as directed, to Council.
• Works independently to resolve typical GIS issues and requests within defined scope.
• Scripting to automate repetitive tasks.
• Communicate  professionally, and effectively with staff, consultants, agencies and members of the general public, promoting a high standard of customer service.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:

• Two (2) year College Diploma from accredited post-secondary institution in a related field (e.g. Planning, Geography, Engineering Technologist).
• Valid Class G Driver’s Licence, and clean Driver’s Abstract.to be held and maintained.
• Current Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (“CRC”) prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two (2) year College Diploma from accredited post-secondary institution in GIS.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required Qualifications:

• Two (2) years’ of GIS related work experience.
• Excellent understanding of GIS concepts and software, including strong knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, GIS editing workflows, and related extensions.
• Understanding of GIS data Maintenance, cartography, queries and configuration principles and best practices.
• Familiarity with parcel and infrastructure-based GIS data maintenance
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a demanding environment
• Proven ability to work with professionalism and confidence with all levels of management and the public

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Experience with development or scripting tools such as Visual Studio Code, Python, ArcPy, Arcade, SQL, Power Automate, or Power BI.
• Experience with municipal business systems such as CityView, Municipal Connect, WorkTech, or Vadim.
