Reporting to the Skate Shop Lead, the successful candidate will deliver quality and progressive educational and recreational opportunities in an enjoyable and safe manner to the public. Candidates must have weekend availability. Schedules may include work on weekends, evenings, statutory holidays, and will be dependent on programs, activities, and public skate sessions being offered.Specific duties include (but are not limited to):Facilitate and oversee skating lessons, public skate sessions, and recreational skating programs.Ensure patron safety through active ice patrol and enforcement of facility guidelines.Operate the skate shop, including skate sharpening, rentals, and general upkeep of equipment and supplies.Establishing and maintaining positive relations with facility user groups and the general public;Leading the operation and security of programs on assigned shifts;Support program setup and teardown; Maintain skate shop facility cleanliness;Enforcing rules and regulations when necessary; |Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time.Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities:Completion of Grade Possession and maintenance of current Standard First Aid Proficiency in ice skating and possession of own skates and CSA approved Experience in program content delivery for a range of innovative recreational programs, services and Basic knowledge and commitment to WorkSafeBC, Ministry of Health, BC Safety Authority regulations and safety procedures and other related regulatory requirements as related to the safe operation of arena facilities.Demonstrable ability to receive and implement directions, manage competing priorities, meet facility standards and ideals and work towards excellence in the operation of the Arena.Basic understanding of building and skate shopAbility to work independently as well as under The position may be physically demanding; candidate must be able to successfully perform all duties associated with the position. A medical certificate attesting to suitability for this position may be required.Preferred Qualifications:BCRPA High-Five Quest 100 - Essential Child Fundamental Movement Skills This is a unionized position (CUPE Local 358) and the collective agreement may be viewed on our website.Candidates being considered will be required to undergo a comprehensive evaluation of skills, qualifications, and abilities. This position has responsibility for vulnerable persons and will therefore be required to undergo a Vulnerable Sector screening check, in addition to a Police Information Check, if an offer of employment is made.
