Position Summary
St. Lawrence College is seeking experienced and motivated professionals who share St. Lawrence College’s vision to be a globally recognized college, delivering innovative learning opportunities and preparing career‑ready graduates to be leaders in their field.
We are currently seeking qualified Professors on a part‑time basis with experience and expertise in the Biology, Chemistry, and Math.
ACES6130 – ACE Biology
This course focuses on structure and function in the areas of cellular biology, microbiology, human anatomy, genetics and our natural environment. Three major themes of biology are introduced: organization, homeostasis and interconnectedness. Emphasis is on the practical application of these concepts. The content of the course reflects the needs of many adult learners entering postsecondary college programs in health and environmental sciences.
ACES6110 – ACE Chemistry
This course provides learners with a strong knowledge of chemistry as it applies to health and environmental issues. Emphasis is given to analyzing problems, performing laboratory exercises and communicating scientific information effectively. The content of the course reflects the needs of many adult learners entering postsecondary college programs in health and environmental.
ACEM6020 – ACE Business Math
This course is designed to increase comprehension and performance of mathematical operations and to involve the learner in the application of business mathematical techniques. The material covered includes the study of arithmetic and geometric sequences and series; simple and compound interest; annuities; exponential growth; retail mathematics; data analysis – collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; self‑study and the application of learned skills to numerous problems; developing learner skills in handling business mathematical problems.
These positions will be primarily located at the Cornwall Campus; however, occasional travel to support programs in Kingston, Brockville, or Cornwall may be requested. Candidates must be available to teach Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Creating a positive learning environment that accommodate students’ diverse culture and educational backgrounds, experience and individual learning preferences;
- Effectively use educational and advanced technologies, and digital learning methodologies to enhance the student learning experience;
- Developing curriculum that is appropriately designed and uses evidence‑based tools and strategies to support and assess student learning;
- Utilize principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
- Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant with a lens on the future;
- Working effectively with learners, colleagues, program and interdisciplinary teams as well as internal and external partners;
- Effectively use the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning to build a contemporary and evidenced based practice.
Qualifications
- Education Specific to the position: A minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Science or Arts with a focus on Biology, or Chemistry, or Math is required for these positions. Given the College’s preparatory focus, these positions do not require advanced or highly specialized credentials; however, a solid academic foundation is essential to support student readiness and success.
- Experience specific to the position: A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of Biology, Chemistry, or Math. Experience in a secondary (high school) setting or in adult/continuing education, as it aligns with the needs of the College preparatory learners. The ability to effectively support students in developing foundational academic skills.
- Industry Knowledge/Skills: Candidates should demonstrate practical knowledge and skills related to the course content area, along with the ability to translate that knowledge into accessible, student‑centered instruction. Strong communication skills, adaptability, and an understanding of learner needs at the preparatory level are important to support student engagement and progression.
- Teaching experience using a Learning Management System and virtual meeting technology system.
- Teaching experience at the post‑secondary level or experience in adult instructions techniques and practice using principles of andragogy and curriculum design experience will be required.
- A demonstrated practice supporting a diversity of learners.
- Experience participating in industry‑led or community‑based applied research will be an asset.
- A proven track record of life‑long learning.
- A demonstrated commitment to putting “students first”.
- Candidates are requested to list all St. Lawrence College teacher training or equivalent they possess on their resume.
- A global mindset and intercultural knowledge and competence to teach in a global environment including international students is required.
- An understanding of the Ontario college system.

Candidates seeking faculty positions with the College will be required to demonstrate the ability to design, facilitate and assess learning in accordance with adult learning principles and universal design in learning (UDL). An ongoing commitment to professional learning will be expected.
Successful candidates are expected to have their own computer, reliable internet connection, and the ability to teach remotely or on campus, as may be required. The use of virtual meetings through video conferencing software will be required in this role. Professors are also expected to possess or develop proficiency in the use of a Learning Management Software (LMS) to a degree that meets academic standards.
Support and Coaching
All Professors will be provided with support by the School of Contemporary Teaching and Learning in their onboarding and orientation to teach at St. Lawrence College. Support and coaching is provided to new faculty to provide a strong theoretical foundation of teaching and learning, and to orient them to the teaching tools and strategies required for teaching in a contemporary and modern learning institution. Salary & Terms
- Salary: $80.62 – $139.88 per hour. Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
