Best Buddies Canada is a national nonprofit organization, established in 1993, dedicated to creating one-to-one friendships and leadership opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). With over 490 participating schools across the country—from elementary and middle schools to high schools, colleges, and universities—Best Buddies Canada helps build inclusive communities through friendship, advocacy, and meaningful connection.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate, outgoing, and motivated Program Advisor to support program growth and community fundraising efforts across Western Canada. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in relationship-building, program development, volunteer engagement, and community outreach.

Reporting to the Program Manager and working closely with the Director, Community Events, the Program Advisor will support existing chapters, help launch new chapters, manage volunteer participation, and contribute to partnerships and fundraising initiatives such as the Friendship Walks.

This position is remote, with occasional travel within British Columbia and Alberta.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to Best Buddies chapters via phone, email, and in-person meetings (as needed).
  • Engage and expand Best Buddies programs in schools throughout BC and Alberta.
  • Assist new chapters with start-up, training, and access to program resources.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with program participants, chapter leaders, staff advisors, and host agencies.
  • Support students, teachers, and volunteers with problem-solving and program implementation.
  • Recruit, motivate, and coordinate volunteers; ensure chapter participation in Friendship Walk activities.
  • Track chapter progress, training participation, communications, and program milestones.
  • Conduct reference checks for new members.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to schools and community organizations.
  • Support fundraising activities by identifying potential partnerships and acting as an ambassador to corporate partners.
  • Participate in committees that support the Friendship Walks.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in community social services, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Experience working with donors, volunteers, or community organizations.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including strong storytelling abilities.
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, attention to detail, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, resourcefulness, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided).
  • Successful completion of a criminal record or vulnerable sector check.
