Licensed Paralegal (Little to no experience is welcome)

Job Responsibility:

We are looking for a motivated individual who is looking to work in the legal field. We are a small group of paralegals that works mainly in Landlord & Tenant Law, as well as a few other more specialized areas. Before I get the usual bah bah bah with the job duties, I want to emphasize that we are looking for personality and work culture fit. Your immediate boss is an individual with well-managed ADHD, who can be somewhat unfocused until it really matters, and then they become hyper-focused. We are looking for a relaxed, go with the flow personality who is not intimidated with a semi-structured work environment. More than anything, this job requires patience and people skills. There are days when you will feel like a therapist to clients, so it's essential to have good self-care skills.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensee in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research and strong writing skills.

Employment Structure

• Associates are employees, on a commission based income model.
• Associates are responsible for providing their own computer and work space
• Associates are not responsible for client billing
• Associates are not responsible for marketing, and advertising
• Associates are not responsible maintaining a trust account
• Associates are not responsible for managing and remitting HST
• Associates are not responsible for managing the technical infrastructure of the business

Scope of Associate Responsibility & Expectations

• Responsible for interviewing potential clients.
• Responsible for preparing and drafting retainers for new clients
• Responsible for the primary management of clients within the associate's registry of clients
• Providing input to management on business policies and procedures

Scope of Associate Authority

• Retaining new clients
• Terminating clients (if required)
• Associates may set their own fees and rates subject to our minimum billing fees and rates

• Access to Westlaw (Legal Research)

• Access to a virtual phone extension (Phone System)

• Access to ARIS (MTO access to driver's license and plate lookups)
• Access to corporate information lookup services
• Access to a virtual desktop to manage client matters.

Training Resources

• 3 hours minimum of monthly training based on a personal competency assessment in the following areas:
• Substantive law in LTB matters
• Substantive law in small claims court matters
• Technical skills in video conferencing technology
• Legal research skill development

Note: Training is provided by the General Partners

Billing Expectations

• Average weekly billings of $3000
• The average client fee is $1000 for an LTB application and $500 for a hearing.

Compensation Package

• Associate will retain (60%) of their monthly billings
• The total monthly income expected to be earned is $5,400 (excluding income tax)
• The above income projections are subject to client availability,
• Riverview in no way guarantees a minimum number of clients per month

Compensation Exclusions

Riverview does not cover the following expenses:

• Errors & Omissions Insurance
• LSO Annual Fees

Restrictions

• Associates may not retain independent clients outside of Riverview without the express written consent of management.
• Associates are expected to work from home, we currently do not have a physical office.
• Associates are expected to maintain digital client files only (we do not maintain paper storage of files)
