Senior Data Scientist (12 Month Contract)

In this role, you will lead applied data science initiatives across the Technology Innovation & Data department, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to transform business challenges into actionable data solutions and deliver measurable impact.

Responsibilities

• Own problem framing and translate business goals into hypotheses, metrics, and analytical approaches (forecasting, propensity, segmentation, optimization, NLP).
• Design and deliver prototypes aligned with commercial strategy, ensuring measurable business impact such as cost savings, revenue growth, or improved guest experience.
• Define and execute measurement and experimentation plans (A/B tests, holdouts, quasi‑experiments) to quantify incremental impact.
• Plan and manage the data‑science/ML project pipeline; develop roadmaps, align priorities, communicate trade‑offs, and coordinate dependencies with partners such as Data Engineering, Data Governance, Product/Digital/Business teams.
• Identify, collect, and validate datasets; define data‑quality checks and partner with data stewards/engineering to ensure data is fit for purpose.
• Design, develop, and evaluate models and prototypes; select the best approach balancing accuracy, interpretability, scalability, and business constraints.
• Present insights and recommendations to non‑technical and leadership audiences, driving alignment, decision‑making, and adoption.
• Mentor team members, conduct peer code reviews, and document reusable patterns and best practices (Confluence).
• Oversee third‑party partners during prototyping to ensure schedules, processes, and outcomes are on track.
• Develop, test, optimize, and productionize machine‑learning models and supporting data pipelines for training and predictions.
• Automate processes for predictive model validation, QA, and monitoring of production ML products.
• Maintain coding guidelines and high‑quality code standards.
• Develop and optimize generative‑AI workflows using LLMs, RAG, vector search, and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Partner with engineering and platform teams to deploy LLM‑based applications and establish governance across environments.
• Design evaluation suites and QA approaches for GenAI solutions, including responsible‑AI guardrails.
• Contribute to reusable AI components, prompt‑engineering standards, and AI solution design best practices.
• Manage data‑science projects from conception to delivery via organized intake, Jira/Monday.com tracking, and governance standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in data science, data wrangling, and/or ML engineering.
• University degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or substantial coursework in a quantitative field.
• Strong foundation in statistics and machine‑learning (supervised/unsupervised), feature engineering, and model evaluation.
• Experience in NLP and/or GenAI techniques for applied use cases (classification, entity extraction, semantic search) with an evaluation‑first mindset.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python; strong data‑wrangling skills for large, messy datasets.
• Preferred cloud expertise: Azure and Databricks ecosystem; ability to run scalable experimentation and modeling workflows.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, version control (Azure DevOps/GitHub), reproducible pipelines, and monitoring principles for models and data products.
• Experience with BI tools (PowerBI, Tableau, PowerPoint) to communicate insights to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience designing and interpreting experiments (A/B tests, holdouts, quasi‑experiments) and defining success metrics.

Location & Compensation

• Hybrid work model: 3 days per week at 20YorkMillsRoad, Toronto, Ontario; travel to Four Seasons Corporate Office (1165 Leslie Street, Toronto, Ontario) as needed.
• Salary range: $85,000 – $125,000
