Lead Offshore Technician

General Purpose:

Reporting to the SOV Shift Manager, the Lead Technician (Lead Tech) is a senior offshore coordination role responsible for operational planning, execution readiness, and supervisory coverage in support of offshore service operations. Working hand‑in‑hand with the Offshore Shift Supervisor, the Lead Tech owns short‑ and long‑term planning horizons and ensures all resources, documentation, materials, tooling, and releases are in place for safe and effective turbine work. The Lead Tech provides designated supervisory coverage and operational support during the late shift and as required to enable the Offshore Shift Supervisor and other leaders to conduct field leadership activities such as audits, complex troubleshooting, turbine visits, and technician development, while ensuring operational continuity and alignment between planning and offshore execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Own offshore operational planning across daily, 3‑day, 1‑week, 2‑week, and 6‑month horizons, ensuring plans are realistic, resourced, and executable.
  • Act as the execution‑readiness owner by validating that all planned work has the required materials, tooling, documentation, system readiness, and release approvals before execution.
  • Lead the daily planning meeting and clearly communicate the approved plan, priorities, risks, and constraints to all stakeholders.
  • Evaluate task scope, sequencing, duration, and risk to determine resource needs and operational feasibility.
  • Identify required parts, tools, and consumables, ensuring correct reservations and availability in SAP prior to execution.
  • Work closely with the Stockkeeper to forecast material needs, communicate P70/P80 priorities, and ensure on‑time availability for planned work.
  • Add and maintain accurate parts, tooling, and task details in Service Orders to support safe, compliant execution.
  • Perform first‑level administrative review of Approved Written Procedures (AWPs) to confirm accuracy, completeness, and alignment with planned work.
  • Review personnel availability, planned absences, and training validity to ensure realistic short‑ and mid‑term planning forecasts.
  • Ensure all approved tasks are correctly loaded and maintained in STORM, including short‑term and long‑term work scopes.
  • Secure and track required work releases from Equinor and ensure alignment with the approved operational plan.
  • Monitor and document deviations from the approved plan, identify root causes, and ensure deviations are communicated to the Offshore Shift Supervisor and SOV Shift Manager.
  • Support development, prioritization, and planning of continuous improvement initiatives and proactive maintenance cases with Performance Engineering.
  • Serve as acting Offshore Shift Supervisor during designated late‑shift coverage, operating within defined authority and escalation boundaries.
  • Provide Supervisor relief during the day to enable turbine visits, audits, complex troubleshooting, field coaching, and technician engagement.
  • Oversee end‑of‑day operational close‑out and confirm all teams have safely demobilized from turbines.
  • Make real‑time operational decisions within delegated authority, aligned with the Offshore Shift Supervisor and SOV Shift Manager.
  • Participate in cross‑functional coordination with vessel crew, logistics, and support functions to maintain alignment between plan and execution.
  • Review completed Service Orders for accuracy in time, parts, and descriptive text, ensuring documentation quality and completeness.
  • Set clear expectations for post‑job documentation standards and coach technicians to improve reporting quality.
  • Validate Y3FA / Y3JC coding accuracy and seek Supervisor clarification where required before closure.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, material usage, plan changes, and operational outcomes.
  • Ensure all stakeholders receive timely, accurate planning and execution updates.
  • Integrate HSE considerations into all planning activities and ensure plans align with Vestas' HSE Management System.
  • Promote visible HSE leadership by embedding safety and risk awareness into planning decisions and execution readiness.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to lead technicians, influence cross‑functional teams, and maintain trust.
  • Ability to create robust operational plans with accurate assumptions and resource assessments.
  • Ability to work independently during the late shift while acting as the Supervisor on duty.
  • Ability to understand turbine technical tasks, tooling needs, technician competencies, and safe work sequences.
  • Ability to work and live on an SOV for extended rotations.
  • Ability to climb wind turbines and perform field tasks as required.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb towers unassisted up to 475 feet.
  • Ability to obtain OEUK Medical Clearance and successfully pass a Chester Step Test.

Education, Training, and Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of SAP or ability to rapidly become proficient.
  • Ability to create detailed, realistic operational plans.
  • Strong focus on HSE, service quality, and operational delivery.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable interacting with customer representatives.
  • Completion of TBC 200 tasks on any platform.

  • Must be capable of leading and gaining the trust of a diverse team.
  • Shared sense of responsibility for the success of Empire Wind and commitment to promoting Vestas' core values, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
