About The Branch

The Property Assessment and Taxation Branch provides all Yukon taxing authorities with property assessments, and levies taxes in accordance with the general property tax rates, as established by Yukon Government property taxation authority for all areas outside municipalities. The branch administers several funding programs for rural and municipal property owners, including the Domestic Water Well Program and the Rural Electrification and Telecommunications Program and the Better Buildings program.

About The Job

As an Assessor, you will be responsible in determining the assessed value of all real property across the Yukon for taxation purposes. This position offers a balance of in office and fieldwork. In the office, you will respond to property owner inquiries, manage assessment reviews and value disputes, analyze market trends, review building plans and complete valuations using a Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system. In the field, you will engage directly with property owners, municipalities, First Nation governments and other partners. You will conduct on-site inspections that require accurate measurement and identification of structures and property characteristics.

Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note that selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Coursework in Property Assessment/Appraisal or undergraduate degree in Statistics, Public Administration, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Urban Geography, Land Planning or other related field would be preferred
  • Experience interpreting legislation and regulations
  • Experience analyzing problems, identifying solutions and independently making decisions
  • Experience responding to public inquiries and complaints
  • Experience working with real estate and/or building construction would be an asset

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Additional Information

Conditions of Employment: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Job Requirements: Willingness to travel throughout the territory conducting on-site inspections.
