Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering disciplineRequired Experience
Minimum 10 years of instrumentation engineering experience in an operating facilityStrong practical understanding of oil sands process environmentsExperience supporting operations and maintenance during routine operations, turnarounds, plant outages, and emergency situationsExperience leading multidisciplinary work scopes, coordinating schedules and budgets, and interfacing with management, plant personnel, contractors, and vendorsExperience participating in construction and commissioning activities for medium to large capital expansion projectsExperience producing and reviewing instrumentation engineering deliverables for process facilitiesRequired Skills
Strong troubleshooting capability across instrumentation, control valves, actuated on‑off valves, control systems, and low‑voltage electrical systemsAbility to develop scopes of work, cost estimates, and integrated multidisciplinary construction work packagesKnowledge of process measurement principles and advanced field diagnosticsExperience with sizing calculations for instruments, control valves, and pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic actuation packagesProficiency in developing datasheets, material requisitions, installation details, wiring and loop diagrams, cause‑and‑effect charts, control narratives, and instrument location plansStrong understanding of industrial control and safety‑instrumented systems, including process control theory, control logic development, and loop tuningAbility to troubleshoot and optimize control system performance and implement system improvements and upgradesExperience supporting process safety and reliability initiatives, including root‑cause failure analysis, bad‑actor reviews, and HAZOP studiesKnowledge of control valve design and troubleshooting, including cavitation, flashing, and severe‑service conditionsExperience with large electrically and pneumatically actuated on‑off valves used in mining and severe‑service refinery applicationsStrong understanding of metallurgy and material selection for corrosion, erosion, and temperature‑resistant applications in oil sands environmentsWorking knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API, and ISA standards in oil and gas refining environmentsFamiliarity with SmartPlant Instrumentation/InTools including datasheet, wiring, and loop modulesStrong organisational, analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborativelyAbility to work safely in an operating refinery environment, including climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolds in varying weather conditions to survey equipment and support operations and maintenance teamsRequired Certifications
Eligible for or registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in AlbertaPreferred Qualifications
Experience within oil sands or heavy‑oil processing environmentsKnowledge of PSV design, application, and troubleshooting, including API RP 520, ASME Section VIII (Div. 1 & 2), and ASME Section IExperience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma and 4DX methodologiesAbout Airswift
