Position

Drill and Blast Engineer - Open Pit, Nunavut

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer - Open Pit, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

Responsibilities

• Plan and design drilling and blasting patterns, including all aspects of drilling, loading, and tie-ins;
• Ensure quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for all drilling and blasting activities;
• Lead projects focused on improving fragmentation, crest protection, and reducing costs;
• Conduct pattern and bench reconciliations and perform retroactive analyses to improve performance;
• Track and report end-of-month consumables (explosives, accessories, fuel, etc.);
• Coordinate daily activities with Technical Services and Operations teams to ensure smooth execution;
• Support daily, weekly, and three-month mine plans to align with quarterly and annual targets;
• Assist with strategic mine planning and quarterly forecasting; identify opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiency;
• Provide backup support for open-pit mine planning tasks as needed;
• Promote and follow safe work practices; actively participate in company-wide safety programs; and
• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports; maintain strong working relationships with staff, contractors, and consultants.

Desired Competencies and Requirements

• Two (2) years of open pit mining experience in hard rock mining; preferably in a northern mining environment, and versed in all aspects of mine engineering application;
• Bachelor's Degree in Geological/Mine Engineering (BASc);
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist or ability to obtain same; and
• Proficiency in mine planning and design software - Deswik, CAD, OPDB and Shotplus preferred.
