Overview:
The Dibaajimowin Project is expanding high-speed fiber-optic broadband internet access to Treaty #3 First Nations. This collaborative initiative, supported by Bell Canada, Grand Council Treaty #3, and various government partners, aims to connect 17 First Nations and 13 non-Indigenous communities in the Treaty #3 Territory by 2025. The project will provide vital digital infrastructure, enhancing opportunities for education, economic development, and healthcare.
The Dibaajimowin Community Liaison will work collaboratively with Federal and Provincial Funders, Chiefs and Councils, and all partners on the project, under the direction of the Health Director. The successful candidate will support the advancement of the project to connect participating Treaty #3 First Nation communities and non-Indigenous communities to high-speed fiber-optic broadband internet.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engage in and cultivate relationships between GCT#3 and participating communities.
- Serve as a project liaison, coordinating and sharing information between participating Treaty #3 communities, non-Indigenous communities, Health Directors, GCT#3 departments (including TPU and T3IG), GCT#3 Administration, provincial and federal government funders, and project partners (including, but not limited to, Bell Canada).
- Ensure that GCT#3 goals and expectations are met.
- Communicate relevant information between all participating communities and GCT#3.
- Provide regular updates to GCT#3 Administration, GCT#3 Board of Directors, GCT#3 Leadership (Chiefs and Office of the Ogichidaa), and other GCT#3 Departments.
- Collaborate with the GCT#3 Dibaajimowin Project team, including retained telecom consultants and legal advisors.
- Prepare regular updates about the Dibaajimowin Project for all Treaty #3 communities through newsletters, presentations, social media, and briefing notes as required.
- Represent GCT#3 at relevant meetings and events related to the project.
- Develop and execute community strategies to maintain strong relationships and promote the project's initiatives.
- Assist in the creation and completion of reports as needed.
Qualifications:
- Secondary School Diploma required
- Degree in marketing, communications or related field preferred
- Experience working in community outreach or community engagement considered an asset.
Preferred Skills:
- Effective communication skills, including active listening.
- Ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner to diverse communities.
- Build a rapport with communities, organizations and professional partners.
- Foster relationships and empathize with community needs.
- Strong understanding of Anishinaabe culture, language and traditions.
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills along with experience in developing marketing and public engagement plans.
- Organization and able to prioritize workload effectively.
- Knowledge of Treaty #3 First Nation traditions, cultures, values and history.
- Extensive understanding of the diversity among First Nations.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Competence to research information from various sources.
- Ability to speak Anishinaabe language considered an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Must have a valid driver's license (equivalent to Class G), in good standing and a reliable vehicle.
- Must have a clear criminal records/vulnerable sector check.
- Must be able to travel on short notice.
- Travel throughout the Treaty #3 territory, including staying overnight as needed.
- Must be able to work evenings when required.
- Busy office setting and repetitive work may be required.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Interacts with the public at large.
- Ability to conduct and attend presentations.
- Overtime may be required.
