Veterinary Specialist for Research Support

Become a Veterinary Specialist at the University of Ottawa, providing essential care and surgical expertise to support research objectives. This is a key role in the Animal Care and Veterinary Services department. Reporting to the Director, you'll be responsible for a wide range of animal health initiatives, including surgical care, health surveillance, and protocol development. With a focus on educating and training staff, you'll play a crucial role in advancing the knowledge of animal care standards and practices. A solid foundation in veterinary medicine is a must. Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee aquatic and reptilian veterinary care programs
• Develop and manage health surveillance initiatives
• Create site-specific standard operating procedures
• Assist in surgeries and anesthesia protocols
• Mentor staff in animal care and research processes

Requirements:

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) required
• Minimum 6 years veterinary experience required
• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Ontario
• Experience with diverse animal species needed
• Strong initiative and communication skills essential
