Senior Mechanical Engineer - Hydropower (Toronto)

Overview

As a Mechanical Engineer – Hydropower, you will be based at BBA’s Toronto office and play a key role in all phases of engineering projects, ensuring exceptional technical quality of deliverables. You will identify and develop new business opportunities, mentor junior team members, and support the growth of our Hydropower team through occasional site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and perform mechanical projects for turbines, generators, mechanical speed governors, bearing lubrication and cooling, balancing and alignment of rotating parts, hydromechanical valves, and balance‑of‑plant for refurbishment projects and new hydroelectric power plants / pumped storage projects.
  • Lead client communications for your mandates.
  • Be a key member of teams executing small to major modernization or new installation projects.
  • Solve complex problems related to mechanical components in hydroelectric power plants.
  • Identify, plan, and organize client needs; assess unit conditions and conduct power‑upgrade studies for turbines and generators.
  • Lead onsite inspections, diagnostics, commissioning, and testing.
  • Represent your area of expertise and promote it to potential clients and specialized groups in the hydropower sector.
  • Mentor and coach junior and intermediate engineers, sharing knowledge and encouraging skill development.

Qualifications

  • University degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 15 to 25 years of relevant experience in the hydropower sector.
  • Experience with inspections, condition assessments, installation, commissioning, and testing.
  • Must be registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) or another Canadian provincial engineering regulatory body.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
