The Automotive Controller is responsible for managing all accounting and financial reporting functions of the dealership. This position ensures compliance with financial regulations, maintains accurate records, and provides strategic financial guidance to support the dealership's profitability and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements in compliance with dealership and manufacturer guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local financial regulations.
- Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting to optimize financial performance.
- Work closely with the General Manager and ownership to develop financial strategies and improve profitability.
- Manage dealership internal controls to protect assets and reduce risk.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals for annual audits and tax filings.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights for cost savings and revenue enhancement opportunities.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in financial regulations affecting automotive dealerships.
- Human Resources - along with the General Manager and ownership, oversee HR matters. Including hiring, discipline, administration, and termination. A general knowledge and understanding of Alberta Employment Standards is required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- 3+ years of experience in an automotive dealership accounting role (Controller or Office Manager experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of dealership accounting software, preferably familiar with PBS.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of automotive dealership operations and financial best practices.
