Director, Sustainability Reporting

What will you do?

  • Play a key role in developing a best-in class disclosure strategy for the core suite of external sustainability disclosures
  • Develop and set clear reporting and process expectations, including on timelines and sequencing with various content owners/contributors across the Bank to support the delivery of core sustainability disclosures
  • Lead the streamlining and maturation of disclosure and reporting processes, including developing an overall project plan, timelines, and accountabilities for enabling successful delivery against the disclosure strategy as well as overseeing the “levelling up” of reporting tools and technology to optimize functionality
  • Conduct and enable the team to perform effective "second line" challenge of sustainability disclosures through direct interaction with disclosure/content owners
  • Help support the assessment and evaluation of the impact of new sustainability disclosure and financial reporting requirements
  • Support a senior-executive committee with responsibility for governance and oversight of sustainability-related disclosures, including material preparation and coordination
  • Enable a one-team approach to CFO Group deliverables, including supporting our external reporting process for the quarterly and annual Report to Shareholders by performing detailed reviews of MD&A sections and drafting disclosures, where applicable
  • Assist in the preparation of sustainability-related materials for senior executives, our CFO, and the Board/Audit Committee
  • Drive progress and contribute to strategic initiatives within the Chief Accountant’s Group and more broadly within the CFO Group
  • Develop strong business partner relationships to foster greater understanding of key disclosures standards and emerging methodologies
  • Contribute to a collaborative, team-first environment and bring your unique perspective and curiosity to set ambitious goals, drive process improvements, and challenge the status quo

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation
  • 7-10+ years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively to executives and draft clear, succinct and appropriate correspondence and documents
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in a cross-functional setting
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem‑solving skills; including ability to recommend practical solutions to complex challenges in a dynamic environment
  • Proactive, pragmatic, and forward‑thinking approach
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, while knowing when to elevate and ask for support
  • Curiosity to learn new ways to do things, willingness to challenge the status quo, and ability to drive process improvements and efficiencies
  • Strong interpersonal skills; specifically able to act as change agent, facilitator and collaborator
  • Self‑starter – enthusiasm and willingness to learn to get up to speed and stay abreast of constantly evolving developments
  • A ’one team’ mindset and willingness to support and contribute to broader Finance goals and objectives

Nice-to-have

  • Strong understanding of sustainability regulatory disclosure requirements and risk landscape
  • Solid understanding of financial institutions, including all facets of RBC’s business and other activities with strong business acumen
  • Sustainability-related experience and/or familiarity with related frameworks such as ISSB, SASB, GRI, CSRD, etc. is highly desirable
