Community Overview
The Town of Atikokan is a northwestern Ontario community of approximately 2,60 residents located along Highway 11 between Thunder Bay and Fort Frances. Known as the “Canoeing Capital of Canada” and the gateway to Quetico Provincial Park, Atikokan offers a high quality of life with strong community spirit, modern recreation facilities, and year-round outdoor opportunities.

Position Summary
The Town of Atikokan is seeking an experienced and motivated leader to serve as Manager of Community Services .

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will provide leadership for the Community Services Department and oversee the delivery of recreation, parks, facilities, community programming, transit services, grants and capital projects. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will work closely with Council, staff and community partners to enhance services and quality of life for residents and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership

• Lead the Community Services Department and supervise full-time, part-time and seasonal staff.
• Foster a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, customer service and continuous improvement.
• Participate as a member of the Town’s Senior Management Team.

Recreation & Community Services

• Oversee the Recreation & Wellness Centre’s arena and municipal pool, Little Falls Gold Course, parks, trails, campgrounds and other recreation facilities.
• Support recreation programming, the After School Program, municipal transit and community events.
• Work collaboratively with staff, user groups and volunteers to deliver quality services.

Financial & Project Management

• Prepare and manage departmental operating and capital budgets.
• Lead grant applications, capital projects and procurement activities.
• Support long-term facility planning and asset management initiatives.

Partnerships

• Build strong working relationships with the Atikokan Public Library, Museum, AEDC schools, Indigenous partners, community organizations and funding agencies.
• Represent the Town in a professional and collaborative manner.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of leadership experience, municipal awareness and practical experience in recreation, facilities, community services or public administration.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Post-secondary education in Recreation and Leisure, Sports Management or a related field.
• Leadership experience in municipal government, recreation, facilities management or another public sector environment.
• Experience supervising staff, managing budgets and delivering public services.
• Experience managing capital projects and grant-funded initiatives.
• Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships with Council, staff, volunteers, community groups and external partners.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• A valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License.

The following would be considered assets:

• Municipal experience.
• Recreation or facility management experience.
• Grant writing and project management experience.
