Hatch is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Engineer to join our growing Fire Safety team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and project delivery expertise across a diverse range of projects in the mining, energy, infrastructure, nuclear, industrial, and oil & gas sectors.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and global technical specialists to develop innovative, risk-based fire protection and process safety solutions for complex facilities around the world. This is an exciting opportunity to influence major projects, mentor engineers, and help shape Hatch's global fire engineering capabilities.  

What You'll Do

• Lead fire protection and process safety engineering activities across multiple projects.
• Conduct fire risk assessments, code compliance reviews, and fire hazard analyses.
• Develop fire protection design criteria, fire safety philosophies, and loss prevention strategies.
• Design and evaluate fire protection systems, including fire water, sprinkler, foam, clean agent, and fire detection systems.
• Develop performance-based fire engineering solutions and alternative compliance strategies.
• Facilitate fire risk workshops and multidisciplinary safety studies.
• Perform consequence modelling, gas dispersion studies, explosion analyses, and quantitative risk assessments.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, material requisitions, vendor documents, and technical evaluations.
• Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, constructability reviews, and design reviews.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and quality review for junior and intermediate engineers.
• Engage directly with clients, regulatory authorities, insurers, and other stakeholders.
• Support proposal preparation, project planning, scope development, and business development activities.
• Manage scope, schedule, budget, and technical execution for assigned projects.  

About You

You are a technically strong engineering professional who enjoys solving complex challenges, leading teams, and working directly with clients. You bring a collaborative approach, sound engineering judgment, and a passion for delivering innovative fire safety solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng., PE, CEng, or equivalent), or eligibility to obtain registration.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in fire protection engineering, fire risk assessment, process safety, loss prevention, or related disciplines.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects and teams.
• Strong knowledge of applicable fire protection and safety standards, including NFPA, FM Global, CSA, API, NBC, IBC, IFC, and other industry codes.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and client relationship skills.
• Bilingual English communication skills, both written and verbal.  

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Process Safety Engineering.
• Degree specialization in Fire Engineering or Fire Sciences.
• Experience with performance-based design and risk-based assessment methodologies.
• Experience using tools such as PHAST, SAFETI, PIPENET, AFT Fathom, FDS, PyroSim, or equivalent software.

Base salary range: $81,000 - $138,000

At Hatch, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. In accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements, the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location.
