Village of Kaslo

Director of Finance & Corporate Services

The Village of Kaslo is seeking an experienced finance professional to join its senior leadership team as Director of Finance & Corporate Services, serving as the Village's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Corporate Officer (CO).

Why Kaslo?
Located on the shores of Kootenay Lake and surrounded by the Selkirk and Purcell mountains, Kaslo offers an enviable balance of career, community and lifestyle. Hiking, biking, skiing, paddling and boating are all close at hand, making the outdoors an easy part of everyday life. Kaslo is a vibrant small community with a rich history, active arts and cultural scene and a strong sense of community. It also offers a more affordable alternative to many of BC's larger centres and well-known mountain communities.

For professionals looking for both career opportunity and quality of life, Kaslo offers something increasingly hard to find: meaningful work, a close-knit community and an exceptional place to call home. A smaller municipality like Kaslo offers something equally valuable: the opportunity to see the impact of your financial leadership. You will work directly with the CAO and Council, contribute across the organization and have a genuine voice in shaping the Village's future.

The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, this is a broad senior leadership role with significant responsibility for the Village's financial direction and operations. You will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Village's financial services functions while contributing to corporate governance and organizational priorities.

As CFO, you will lead the Village's Five-Year Financial Plan, annual operating and capital budgets, financial reporting, forecasting, year-end financial statements and external audit, while ensuring appropriate financial controls, policies and statutory requirements are maintained.

You will oversee core municipal financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, taxation, utility billing, investments and reserves, and provide financial leadership for asset management, infrastructure planning, borrowing, grants and funding strategies.

In addition to your CFO responsibilities, you will serve as the Village's Corporate Officer, providing leadership for Council and committee administration, governance, bylaws and policies, legislative compliance, FOIPPA, corporate records and other statutory responsibilities.

What You Bring
To be successful in this role, you will have post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, together with at least seven years of progressively responsible finance experience in a municipal, local government or comparable public-sector environment.

You will have strong experience in budgeting, financial planning and reporting, year-end and audit processes and financial controls, with the ability to provide sound financial and strategic advice to senior leadership and elected officials. You will bring strong professional judgment and the ability to work independently across a broad portfolio. A CPA designation and experience with municipal governance or Corporate Officer responsibilities are considered assets.

What We Offer
The Village of Kaslo offers an attractive compensation package with a salary range of $105,000–$120,000, based on experience and qualifications, along with comprehensive health and wellness benefits and participation in the Municipal Pension Plan. The Village supports work-life balance through flexible scheduling and time off in lieu and provides relocation assistance to help make the move to Kaslo easier.

The successful candidate will also have access to ongoing professional development and continuing education opportunities. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will have considerable autonomy, broad organizational influence and the opportunity to make a visible impact on the community you serve.

Could the Village of Kaslo Be Your Next Move?
If you are an experienced municipal or public-sector finance professional looking for your next leadership opportunity, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your resume and cover letter detailing your experience and qualifications to: View email address on civicjobs.ca
