Stqó:ya Construction - Operations Manager

Position Summary:

As Stqó:ya Construction undergoes an exciting organizational restructuring to strengthen our leadership team and expand into new markets, we are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking General Manager to lead this transformation. This role is ideal for a strategic and hands-on leader who thrives in a high-growth environment and is passionate about building Indigenous business success. The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing operations, financial performance, strategic growth, and team leadership, while advancing Stqó:ya’s reputation in the construction industry across British Columbia and beyond. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Project Oversight: Manage the planning, execution, and completion of civil and heavy construction projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.


• Resource Management: Allocate labor, equipment, and materials effectively across projects. Coordinate with Human Resources to forecast staffing needs and support Indigenous employment initiatives.


• Financial Management: Develop and monitor project budgets, ensuring cost control and profitability. Collaborate with the finance team to analyze financial reports and implement corrective actions as needed.


• Safety and Compliance: Promote a culture of safety by enforcing compliance with company safety programs and applicable laws and regulations. Conduct regular site inspections and implement safety improvements.


• Quality Assurance: Implement quality control programs to ensure high standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction. Address any quality issues promptly and effectively.


• Process Improvement: Evaluate operational procedures and practices, implementing improvements to enhance efficiency, productivity, and service delivery.


• Stakeholder Communication: Maintain effective communication with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams. Provide regular updates on project progress and address any concerns proactively.


• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop project teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment that aligns with the company's values and objectives.
  


• Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in operations management within the civil or heavy construction industry preferred.


• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.


• Proven track record of managing multiple construction projects simultaneously, with a focus on safety, quality, and profitability.


• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.


• Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.


• Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.


• Commitment to Indigenous employment and community development initiatives.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility preferred.


• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.


• Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
