Fall 2026 Supplemental Course Lecturer Position

The Department of Philosophy is inviting applications for a course lecturer position to teach in Fall 2026. Please include your Cover Letter and Curriculum Vitae and if applicable a copy of your Study/Work Permit. A brief course outline is optional.

PHIL 202-001 The Good Life (3 Credits - CAP 280)

Examines how ancient philosophers grapple with the question of how we should live, especially Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Stoics, Epicureans and Skeptics, who advertise their philosophies as gateways to happiness, virtue and peace of mind. Also covers select modern views, from Kierkegaard to Sartre, and asks how these differ from the views of the ancients. Analyzes the debate of fundamental questions: What things really matter? Does it pay to be good? What is the best society? Can we escape the roller-coaster of our emotions? Looks at how answers tie in with assumptions about god, nature, knowledge, the soul and politics.

Teaching Qualification Requirements

• Applicants must have completed a PhD degree or be enrolled in a doctoral program in Philosophy;

• Applicants must provide evidence of highly effective teaching ability as a result of having successfully taught or worked as a teaching assistant in a similar course;

• Applicants must have research specialization or competence into some of the major problems of philosophy. This may be demonstrated in one of the following ways: (i) refereed publications and/or conference presentations in the field; (ii) thesis level research on one or more topics in the field; (iii) prior experience successfully teaching this or a closely related course in the field, or (iv) minimally, at least two graduate-level courses on topics in the field.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday 04:35 pm-05:25 pm, August 31, 2026 – December 4, 2026. Location: MCMED 504.

Salary: $ 11,824 per course.
