Therapy Assistant - For Future Opportunities in Long Term Care

Location

Our Long Term Care Division will be opening Seaton Village, a brand new 200-bed long term care home in north Pickering in early 2027, and we are building our team from the ground up.
With this expansion, we will be hiring Adjuvants (Therapy Assistants) for all locations, with opportunities to join the new home or grow within our existing sites. While most positions are part-time, some full-time positions may also be available. Opportunities are expected to be available at all of the following locations:

- Seaton Village in Pickering - NEW!
- Lakeview Manor in Beaverton
- Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa
- Hillsdale Terraces in Oshawa
- Fairview Lodge in Whitby

Therapy Assistant

The incumbent will: 

- Develop and implement client activation programs 
- Carry out individual therapeutic programs as per the direction of the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist 
- Participate in care planning, evaluation and documentation 
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) 
- Be able to work occasional evenings and weekends as required 

The successful applicant will possess: 

- A Certificate in Activation Techniques in Gerontology or equivalent combination of education and experience 
- Previous experience in a long term care environment is preferred 
- Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with safe work practices 
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions
- A demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service with consideration for equity and accessibility 
- Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job

Hours of Work:

Successful candidates must be available to work a variety of shifts, including 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Part-time employees may be required to work every other weekend based on operational needs. In addition, both full-time and part-time employees must be available to accept occasional call-in shifts as required. Work schedules are prepared and posted six weeks in advance and are based on the operational requirements of the home. As such, schedules may be adjusted as needed to meet service demands. Please note that schedules are not created around another employer's work schedule, individual availability, or personal preferences. Candidates must be able to meet the scheduling requirements of the position.

Therapy Assistant Salary Information

- The hourly rate range for this position is $32.35 to $33.45.

Conditions of Employment

All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening will be required in accordance with the FLTC Act (O.Reg. 246/22). Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected. Finally, compliance with the Mask Fit Testing Program is required and will be coordinated as part of the orientation process.
