Assistant Deputy Minister, Legal Services

Filling one (1) permanent full-time position

Reporting to the Deputy Minister, the Assistant Deputy Minister provides executive level direction to the branches of the Legal Services division and provides senior level legal advice to departments.

The ideal candidate will be a senior member of the bar who has significant public or private sector experience in human resource management, fiscal management and policy development.

Essential Qualifications

• Law degree from a Canadian University, membership in good standing with Yukon Law Society or eligibility and at least 10 years at the bar;
• Significant experience as a private or public sector lawyer; and
• Strong executive-level experience in the public and/or private sector;
• Theoretical base in leadership and public sector administration, including strategic planning, human resources, and financial management; and
• Experience providing strategic leadership in the management of diverse and complex program areas, leading teams, and working collaboratively across government and externally.

You balance multiple priorities in a complex, multi-disciplinary and often high-profile work environment while building effective relationships within your department, across the territorial government and externally (with federal, provincial/territorial, municipal and First Nations governments). Through visionary leadership, political acumen, resilience and a willingness to take calculated risks, you integrate and operationalize significant and fast paced change. You model appropriate behaviours and promote a highly engaged workforce though organizational commitment, supportive relationships, self – awareness and ethical decision making.

• Active member in good standing with Yukon Law Society or eligibility to achieve membership.

• Wiliness to travel within and outside of Yukon.
