We are currently seeking a qualified Field Specialist – PTUS to join our Infrastructure team based in Toronto, ON. The Field Specialist will be part of the Delivery Partner integrated project team responsible for performing construction field engineering assignments of a varied nature the Ontario Line Subway Project. The Field Specialist will be assigned to the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations (PTUS) package, one of the most technically complex components of the Ontario Line program. The work involves underground transit construction, tunnelling, station construction, utility coordination, stakeholder interfaces, and integration with existing transit operations within a dense urban environment. The Field Specialist is responsible for executing and managing construction field engineering tasks, ensuring work meets safety, technical, and quality standards. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate with project teams. The Field Specialist may lead a team or specialize in a specific area of the project. 

Bantrel Infrastructure, a key sub-vendor to Bechtel, has been appointed as the Delivery Partner within an integrated team with the client, Metrolinx, for the Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project. In this role, Bantrel Infrastructure will work as part of an integrated team with the customer organization to support the delivery of this subway project in Toronto, Ontario.   The project scope includes the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and more than 15 km of new alignment. The work is being delivered through two major Public-Private Partnership (P3) contractors, multiple Advanced Early Works (AEW) package contractors, and two large Progressive Design-Build contracts.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Review project requirements and ensure contractor compliance

• Analyze technical drawings, scope, and specifications to ensure full project understanding and ensure contractor compliance. 

• Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and team members to align on goals and timelines. 

• Assist in planning methods and procedures and resolve technical issues with superintendents. 

• Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures. 

• Provide hands-on technical support, troubleshooting on-site issues, and ensuring equipment compliance with safety standards. 

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime. 

• Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and technicians to ensure work meets specifications. 

• Supervise junior engineers or contractors, providing guidance and support. 

• Communicate with project managers and clients on progress and issue resolution. 

• Conduct quality checks to ensure compliance with technical standards and safety protocols. 

• Complete field reports documenting tasks, issues, and corrective actions. 

• Monitor material usage, labor hours, and equipment operation for accountability. 

• Address client concerns on-site and escalates when necessary. 

• Prepare reports summarizing activities and recommendations. 

• Collaborate with project teams to align on goals and timelines, providing input on technical challenges and solutions. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field as well as a minimum of 3-4 years of relevant work experience, or 7-9 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree. 

• Work experience as a field engineer, or assistant superintendent. 

• Previously held construction supervision role(s) with responsibility for construction of infrastructure of similar scope, size and complexity to a station on a rail / transit project. 

• Strong communication and leadership skills. 

• Strong writing skills.

• Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
