Lead Building Technician – Montreal

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Lead Building Technician (LT) to support our data centers in Montreal. The LT ensures that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at peak efficiency through planned preventive maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. The role serves as the focal point for all facility operations in a given data center and manages small-to‑medium projects from conception to completion, obtaining and tracking quotes, and documenting results for future implementation.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Provide daily corrective work and emergency response for all equipment.
• Manage small‑to‑medium projects, including design, cost tracking, and documentation.
• Support Engineering Operations technicians and third‑party vendors in troubleshooting and operating electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Work with equipment such as stand‑by diesel generators, switch gear, UPS units, PDUs, AHUs, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
• Operate in a 24/7 work environment and provide after‑hours support as needed.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant experience in a data center or other critical environment.
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data center operations, including generators, transformers, switchgear, UPS/ATS, PDUs, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in elevated locations.
• Availability to work in a 24/7 environment and provide after‑hours support when required.
• Proficiency in both French and English (bilingualism required).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or college degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent work experience in mechanical/electrical fields.
• Professional certification in electrical or mechanical engineering (post‑secondary level).
