The Ministry of Highways is seeking a motivated Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Mechanic to work in the Fleet Services Branch in Yorkton. This permanent full-time opportunity offers hands-on work maintaining, repairing and modifying trucks, highway construction and maintenance equipment, light vehicles and other machinery essential to Saskatchewans transportation network. The successful candidate will be accountable, adaptable and team-oriented, with strong problem-solving, organizational and communication skills. You will be able to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders while delivering safe, accurate and timely service. To qualify, candidates must possess a Saskatchewan-recognized Journeyperson Certificate in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic, Truck and Transport Mechanic, or Agricultural Machinery Technician. Fourth-year apprentices in these trades may also be considered. A valid Class 3A driver's licence, or the ability to obtain one during probation, is required. Candidates must have knowledge of regulations, legislation, theories and practices related to heavy equipment repair and maintenance. Strong technical skills are required to inspect equipment, diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic issues, apply safety procedures, perform calculations and use computer software to maintain records and retrieve information. Responsibilities include conducting preventative maintenance and inspections, diagnosing equipment problems, repairing and maintaining vehicle and equipment systems, performing routine servicing, modifying equipment as assigned and entering and retrieving data using computer systems.
