Associate Director - Molecular Testing/Genomics

Role Summary

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Regular full‑time Associate Director of Molecular Testing/Genomics to lead the Molecular Testing Program and associated laboratory services within the Medical Affairs division.

This role will be based in one of our sites (Brampton, Ottawa, or Calgary) and will operate in a hybrid environment with at least 40 % of time on site.

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic, operational, and managerial oversight of the Molecular Testing Program.
• Drive development, validation, implementation, and continuous improvement of molecular testing services.
• Partner cross‑functionally with Innovation, Medical Affairs, Quality & Regulatory Affairs, and Digital Solutions & Technology.
• Develop program vision, objectives, and benefit realization, including assay portfolio expansion and innovation roadmap.
• Collaborate with testing and innovation leads to establish roadmap and set priorities.
• Support operational excellence in turnaround time, throughput, cost efficiency, and scalability.
• Establish and monitor KPIs, drive continuous improvement.
• Provide guidance on proposals, decisions, and documentation for strategic projects.
• Identify, assess, and manage program and project risks with mitigation strategies.
• Communicate program changes to the Director, Testing, and Steering Committee.
• Recruit, train, and manage project team members.
• Promote compliance with the Canadian Blood Services Quality Management System.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• PhD, MD, or master’s degree in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related life sciences field.
• 8–12+ years in molecular diagnostics, clinical laboratory, or biotech/pharma environment.
• 3–5+ years in a leadership, people management, or operational role.
• Required licensure with the provincial college for medical technologist in a related discipline where applicable.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Deep understanding of molecular biology techniques and diagnostic workflows.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory and quality requirements.
• Experience with laboratory information systems, data management, and analytics.
• Program and project management expertise.
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
