Role Purpose

Reporting to the Vice President, Coffee Project, the Health and Safety Manager is a senior member of the Site Leadership Team. This role provides practical, visible leadership across project development, construction readiness, and site operations.

Coffee is an active start-up environment, not a mature operation. The successful candidate will assess current practices, identify critical gaps, establish priorities, strengthen systems, and build a consistent, accountable safety culture with employees, contractors, and project partners.

This is a hands-on, site-based role requiring comfort with rotational camp life, changing priorities, limited infrastructure, challenging weather, and the realities of a developing northern mining project.

The Person We Are Looking For

We are seeking an ambitious, resilient, and collaborative safety leader who is energized by building an effective program—not simply maintaining one. The ideal candidate brings:

• Significant health and safety experience in mining, mineral exploration, mine construction, or a related heavy-industrial environment.
• Remote, rotational, camp-based experience and a strong understanding of field operations.
• Experience supporting project development, start-up, construction, commissioning, or rapid organizational growth.
• Visible, firm but fair leadership, with the confidence to address unsafe conduct, contractor non-compliance, and leadership gaps.
• Sound judgment, emotional maturity, and composure when managing serious incidents, competing priorities, or high-pressure situations.
• Strong relationship-building, investigation, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
• A high degree of accountability, adaptability, initiative, and follow-through.
• Provide visible, field-based leadership that promotes safety, respectful conduct, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Assess the current program, prioritize critical gaps, and develop and improve Talamore’s Health and Safety Management System in accordance with applicable legislation and recognized mining standards.
• Integrate health and safety requirements into project planning, contractor mobilization, field execution, and operational decisions.
• Lead or oversee investigations involving incidents, near misses, harassment, and high-potential events; identify underlying causes and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Strengthen reporting culture so employees and contractors can raise hazards, incidents, and concerns without fear of reprisal.
• Establish clear incident notification, escalation, emergency communication, and response plans for remote-site risks.
• Oversee orientations, training, supervisor development, performance indicators, and reporting to project and executive leadership.
• Maintain effective relationships with employees, contractors, Indigenous partners, regulators, inspectors, auditors, and other stakeholders.
• Degree, diploma, or recognized professional designation in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Mining, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8–10 years of progressive health and safety experience in mining, mine construction, mineral exploration, or heavy industry.
• Demonstrated experience building or significantly improving a safety program during project development, start-up, or construction.
• Experience overseeing contractor safety and leading serious or complex investigations.
• Strong knowledge of risk assessment, emergency preparedness, training systems, and safety assurance.
• CRSP or equivalent is an asset; first-line supervisor, first aid, mine rescue, or emergency-response credentials are also assets.
• Live and work in camp for each scheduled rotation and maintain a consistent, meaningful site presence.
• Travel regularly, including weekends or outside regular hours when required.
• Work extended or irregular hours during operational demands, emergencies, weather events, or travel disruptions.
• Work outdoors in variable northern weather and on uneven terrain.

Expected Compensation

$140,000–$190,000 annually, based on qualifications, mining and remote-camp experience, and demonstrated leadership capability.
