Pay Details: $126,800 – $164,100 CAD annually. The base salary offered may vary based on skills, experience, and business needs.

About The Team The Energy Technology team builds and operates digital and real‑time platforms that power trading and client connectivity across the Energy trading business. We own our systems front‑to‑back, delivering technology that enables automated trading workflows, accelerates new business ideas, and integrates seamlessly with market infrastructure. Engineers lead end‑to‑end workstreams, shaping problem statements, designing architecture, producing high‑quality code, and delivering production systems that support live trading activity.

Role & Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable backend services and APIs using C#/.NET, C++.

Support critical platforms such as real‑time risk/calculation engines, regulatory reporting, MS‑SQL, and legacy codebases.

Operate in a high‑impact, real‑time trading environment, handling production support and incident response outside standard hours.

Architect and implement high‑performance, secure, maintainable server‑side solutions, integrating with relational databases and ensuring connectivity with front‑end applications.

Collaborate closely with business stakeholders in the Commodities Energy domain to translate requirements into technical solutions.

Design and implement solutions for on‑premises and Azure cloud environments, following hybrid infrastructure best practices.

Oversee backend development across multiple projects, ensuring consistency, code reuse, and effective communication.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, leading root cause analysis and long‑term solutions.

Champion modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies.

Ensure backend components are extensible, secure, and compliant with enterprise standards.

Contribute to backend architecture evolution, evaluating and integrating new technologies.

Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions.

Stay updated on emerging technologies and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

Who You Are We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. Preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum Requirements

5+ years of professional hands‑on software development experience building and operating critical production systems.

Desire to act as a true “asset owner”—accountable for design, delivery, and production operation, including on‑call support and continuous reliability improvement.

Strong proficiency in C#/.NET, and/or C++, with experience building high‑performance backend services.

Basic Java experience is a plus.

Experience delivering distributed or event‑driven systems in production.

Experience designing low‑latency or real‑time systems, ideally within financial markets, trading, or exchanges.

Familiarity with electronic trading infrastructure such as FIX connectivity, market data processing, or order management workflows.

Experience with messaging or streaming technologies (Kafka, Aeron, Solace, etc.).

Proven ability to own technical workstreams end‑to‑end, including design, implementation, deployment, and production support tooling.

Strong understanding of software engineering best practices: system design, performance optimization, observability, and operational resilience.

Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams including trading desks, product owners, and other engineering groups.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment involving multiple stakeholders and subject matter experts.

Strong communication skills to drive technical decisions across stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience beyond baseline requirements, particularly in complex or high‑throughput environments.

Experience supporting live trading systems, operating effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
