Qualifications, Education and Skills
Current College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) License; Provisional Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) coverage; Mandatory Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC); Eligibility to obtain required credentials.
Role and Facility Information
Excellent opportunity for a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the expanding Psychiatry department at Kelowna General Hospital.
Hospital work will involve psychiatric assessment and treatment of patients up to and including 18 years of age, usually admitted through the Emergency Department. The Interior Health Adolescent Psychiatry Unit offers an 8‑bed inpatient program for youth ages 12‑17 with significant psychiatric symptoms, operating seven days per week; length of stay varies between 10 days to several weeks.
The multidisciplinary team includes nurses, youth and family counselors, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, teachers, psychiatrists and other disciplines as needed. Assessment actively involves adolescents, their families, and community mental health support services.
Duties include patient assessment and treatment, collaboration with clinicians and managers, development and maintenance of appropriate programs, policies, and procedures. The psychiatrist will have active staff privileges and be the Most Responsible Physician for admitted patients. Participation in the general on‑call schedule is expected.
Community work involves supporting family physicians, pediatricians, and child and youth mental health services. Subspecialty areas include eating disorders and substance use disorders.
Teaching opportunities to medical students and residents are available through affiliation with UBC Faculty of Medicine Southern Medical Program.
Compensation
Combination remuneration: Combined Fee for Service plus Sessions: $300,000 - $400,000, plus MOCAP.
Benefits and Incentives
Relocation funding available: $9,000 – $15,000 for 1.0 FTE positions based on move location with eligible receipts. Part‑time opportunities may be eligible for a pro‑rated reimbursement. Incentives are subject to change and confirmed at time of offer.
