The University of Toronto Scarborough has been a leader in co-operative education and work integrated learning (WIL), for 50 years. Co-op and WIL give students an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Department of Arts and Science Co-op is responsible for preparing over 4500 undergraduate students from 58 academic areas to compete for paid co-op work term opportunities. The department is also responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university co-op programming contribute to the development of well qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. Your opportunity:

The Co-op Coordinator, Global Mobility supports undergraduate co-op students in Arts and Science disciplines who are interested in pursuing co-op work terms that involve relocating to outside the GTA, within Ontario, across Canada or outside of Canada. This role focuses on creating pathways for success for students as it will require different timelines and requirements than a local work term. This role will provide coaching, develop resources, transition programming and resources, guidance for students to successfully navigate job searches, prepare for departure and relocation, adapt to new environments, and transition and reintegration initiatives. They are also the point of contact for students on international work terms. The Co-op Coordinator, Global Mobility will work with University departments supporting global exchange and travel such as the International Student Centre, Centre for International Experience, Study Abroad as well as government and support agencies such as International Experience Canada, CIEE and Cultural Vistas, and be involved with CEWIL and WACE communities of practice. This position facilitates success for Arts& Science Co-op students in abroad work experiences, promotes international work experiences and pathways to students with a goal of increasing work terms secured outside GTA, Canada and internationally. In addition the position will work closely with the partnership team to inform employer development efforts.
The role involves:

Student Advising & Career Development

• Providing individualized and group coaching and workshops to students seeking out-of-province and international work terms.
• Support students in developing job search strategies tailored to regional and global labor markets and assist with job search material development
• Prepare students for interviews and engaging with employers across diverse cultural and professional contexts.
• Guide students through international or out of province job searches and guide students on factors to consider – funding, relocation, visa processing, pre-departure safety, work-term evaluations, reintegration after work term, combining or study abroad and work term

Mobility Preparation (Out of Province and International)

• Deliver workshops on relocation, cultural adaptation, and workplace expectations across regions and countries.
• Prepare students to demonstrate adaptability, intercultural awareness, and professional behaviour in new environments.
• Support students in developing independence, resilience, and problem-solving skills.
• Provide guidance and referrals for relocation logistics (housing, travel, safety abroad, immigration, study abroad etc.).

Work Term Support & Student Success

• Conduct predeparture sessions and return sessions for students
• Maintain regular contact with students during work terms outside of Ontario and internationally
• Coach students through workplace challenges
• Support students in navigating cultural differences, ambiguity, and workplace expectations.
• Monitor student well-being and professional development through structured check-ins.
• Facilitate structured reflection activities which aid students in articulating learning and skill development while connecting academic knowledge to workplace applications and vice versa
• Help students identify and communicate competencies gained from out of province or international work term experience
• Guide students in translating international and out of province experiences into search documents for future work terms or post co-op plans

Program Coordination & Student Engagement/Tracking

• Track student interest and engagement in participation in international work terms
• Track student participation and progress in geographically mobile work terms.
• Ensure student completion of co-op requirements and alignment with experiential learning outcomes.
• Maintain documentation, evaluations, and competency development records.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Implementing plans that support the development of out of province or international work-integrated learning opportunities for students
• Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers and building relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance to create a network of contacts to support out of province and international mobility/work term goals
• Keeping well-informed on best practices for developing student placement and work-integrated learning opportunities for international contexts
• Advising students through their own process of career development by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
• Advising students on job search, industry research and networking strategies including cover letter, resume and interview preparation for out of province or international work-integrated learning opportunities
• Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities and leading seminars and/or workshops on out of province or international work-integrated learning
• Reviewing and assessing feedback received from employers and providing feedback from employers to students engaged in work-integrated learning activities
• Promoting programs at recruitment events and disseminating information regarding recruitment dates, requirements and application procedures

Essential Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Certification in career development, career counselling, human resources, adult learning and development, or a graduate degree in a relevant area will be considered a strong asset.
• Minimum five years' of recent and direct experience in supporting student mobility for working/studying abroad and experience in student advising for career development/co-op education.
• Broad knowledge and experience with of out of province and international trends in employer hiring practices, occupations, current labour market conditions and a strong understanding of student and career development theories
• Demonstrated experience in student-centered advising and coaching expertise
• Demonstrated strong understanding of student transition and mobility challenges
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
• Cultural awareness and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
• Experience with in person and online facilitation, and use of educational technologies
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong presentation and public speaking skills
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of adult learning principles and flipped classroom model
• Demonstrated integrity, initiative, flexibility and creative problem solving
• Ability to manage conflicting demands and work well under pressure
• Strong attention to detail

Assets (Nonessential):

• Lived experience studying/working outside Ontario or internationally (preferred)
• Experience in student professional development, knowledge of workplace standards, recruitment and hiring practices, and performance management techniques gained through a role in a co-operative education or internship program
• Exposure to customized relationship databases such as Simplicity or Orbis
• Experience or knowledge of user experience design
