About The Role

Supervised by : Water Team Co-Lead

Location : 1520 Queen St. E., Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 2G4

Supervises : None

Wages : $17.60 per hour

Duration of employment : 8 weeks

Anticipated start date : June 15

Responsibilities

• Be primarily responsible for outreach with schools
• Under the guidance of the Science Advisor, lead the development of curriculum-based and other activities and resources for engaging members of the public (including internal guides for executing the activities)
• Under the guidance of the Science Advisor, contribute to planning and lead the development of materials and resources for focused campaigns(e.g., in 2025, two campaigns: microplastics and road salts)
• With the support of NORDIK's Communications Manager and the rest of the Water Team, be primarily responsible for populating the Water Team's social media accounts
• Contribute to general outreach and communications for the Water Team
• Be aware of funding agreement obligations and contribute to their tracking and achievement
• Be trained on the Saturna system for the analysis of plastics, to use in community/school engagements
• Be primarily responsible for developing presentations for ongoing outreach activities
• Assist with stocking and managing the inventory of monitoring supplies
• Collaboratively achieve outreach/education-related deliverables per our funding agreements
• Assist with managing shared Google folders for outreach presentations, instructions, media, and other related resources
• Be trained in water monitoring and undertake periodic monitoring
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Need to work on-site
• Have a G2 or G class driver's license
• Early career worker
• Between 15 and 30 years of age
• No science background needed (we will teach what you need to know)!
• You are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or someone who has been officially granted refugee protection in Canada. International applicants need not apply.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada (which means you must have a valid Social Insurance Number)
