In this role, you will support the day-to-day operations of the Fire Department while leading fire prevention, inspection, training, and safety initiatives to protect the community.

The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is the only location in Labrador where road, sea and air services all come together with quality infrastructure, along with a broad range of commercial services including government support agencies, training and professional support services.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Reporting to the Director of Protective Services, you will coordinate operational programs, maintain critical equipment and emergency response standards, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and promote public education and emergency preparedness
- Support front-line firefighting operations and assist with the day-to-day activities of the Fire Department.
- Conduct fire and life safety inspections and develop pre-fire plans in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Lead fire prevention initiatives, public education programs, and community outreach activities.
- Coordinate firefighter training programs and support ongoing operational readiness.
- Oversee fire department equipment, SCBA, fire hose testing, and maintenance programs, and make recommendations for equipment purchases and upgrades.
- Support emergency scene accountability and safety programs and assist in the development of SOPs and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with the Fire Chief, department officers, and external agencies on emergency planning, risk mitigation, and community safety initiatives.
- Participate in mandatory training, fire prevention activities, community events, and other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Minimum of a Grade Twelve (12) Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Valid Class 5 and 9 Driver's License.
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter Certification Levels 1 and 2.
- NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor Certification Level 1.
- NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector Certification Level 1.
- NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Certification Level 1 would be an asset.
- Provide an RCMP Certificate of Conduct, Vulnerable Sector Check, Provincial Court Check and satisfactory Drivers Abstract
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
