How You Will Make an ImpactAs a Community Mental Health Worker, you will extend our mission by working with supportive housing residents living with the challenges of mental illness, substance use, and a history of homelessness. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will help tenants maintain stable housing, develop independent living skills and foster a sense of community and belonging. Working within trauma informed, harm reduction frameworks you will:Deliver one-to-one assistance to residents transitioning into and maintaining housing.Offer supportive counselling, case management, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and advocacy to help residents achieve personal goals and enhance quality of life.Provide education and resources on harm reduction and overdose prevention.Support residents in accessing medical care, mental health services, and withdrawal management and treatment programs as appropriate.Work with community partners to provide coordinated support.Identify community needs and contribute to the development and facilitation of resident driven programs, including social, recreational and educational activities.Encourage resident participation through committees and community events that foster empowerment and inclusion.Maintain accurate and confidential documentation, complete required reports and statistics, and contribute to program evaluation and quality improvement activities.Work in compliance with all Good Shepherd Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors.What You'll Bring to Our TeamA post-secondary degree or diploma in a related health or human services fieldA minimum of 2 years' experience working with people impacted by issues such as homelessness, mental health challenges and substance use.Knowledge of community resources and health and human services systemsA demonstrated understanding of Harm Reduction best practices and overdose prevention strategiesAn understanding of and ability to employ community development approachesExcellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skillsSuperior written and spoken communication skills.Proficient computer skills in various software platformsFluency in a language in addition to English is an assetCPR certification or willingness to be certifiedValid Driver's license is preferredCommitted to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good ShepherdDemonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislationFlexibility to work a rotating 12- hour scheduleWhat We OfferBe a part of a caring TEAM THAT SUPPORTS OUR LOCAL COMMUNITYSupport for continuing EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTStaff recognition programs along with access to self-care supports and EMPLOYEE / FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)POSITIVE and ENCOURAGING atmosphereMake a difference and provide HOPEExtended Health BenefitsJoin our team and be part of a group that values hard work, dedication, and the importance of maintaining a positive environment for everyone.Good Shepherd, a ministry of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, is an equal opportunity employer operating within an anti-racist and anti-oppression framework.
