Job Title: Senior Technology Specialist/Developer (GIS)

Employment Type: Hybrid – a mandatory minimum of two days onsite per week with the remaining three days worked remotely.

Salary: $90.00 per hour (contractors must be incorporated)

Duration: August 21, 2026 – August 20, 2027 (with potential 12‑month extension)

Hours of Work: 7 hours per day (35 hours per week)

Role Overview

Aliant Resources is seeking Senior Technology Specialist/Developers (GIS) for an upcoming municipal government engagement in the Greater Toronto Area. The role focuses on migrating, rebuilding, testing, and ensuring production‑readiness of existing Esri ArcGIS Online SaaS applications to the client’s ArcGIS Enterprise (v11.5) portal platform, contributing to the decommissioning of the legacy GIS platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Migration and (re)development of web and mobile GIS solutions integrated across multiple platforms (including EAM, CRM, ERP).
• Provide senior‑level technical guidance, including workaround analysis, root‑cause analysis, and permanent resolution of complex issues.
• Monitor industry best practices and recommend enhancements to application migration and development programs.
• Prepare recommendations and development estimates related to the Esri product suite.
• Mentor organizational developers on complex technical solutions and escalated matters.
• Collaborate with clients and project teams to confirm detailed architecture for complex solutions.
• Design and develop software solutions in support of business requirements.
• Prepare technical documentation, system design documentation, backup and recovery procedures.
• Develop and execute system and integration test plans.
• Implement high‑quality system components into production environments.
• Design shared components for use across development teams.
• Participate in service delivery, problem resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Mandatory Qualifications & Experience

Education

• University or college graduate in Computer Science or Geography with a post‑bachelor’s certificate/diploma in Application Development or GIS or related disciplines.

Experience

• Minimum of 10 years Esri web and mobile application development experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience providing guidance, support, and mentorship to team members.
• Expert‑level knowledge and proficiency across a range of technologies, including:
  • ArcGIS 10/11.x Product Suite
  • PowerBuilder
  • Python
  • ArcGIS Desktop SDKs 10/11.x
  • Java, XML, JSON, GEOJSON, HTML5, Web Services, SOAP/REST, Application Servers, Web Servers
  • SQL and Enterprise Geodatabases on SQL Server
• In‑depth knowledge of Object Oriented Design (OOD), Object Oriented Programming (OOP), Unified Modeling Language (UML), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).

Mandatory Certifications (Pass/Fail)

• BA or BSc in Computer Science or Geography
• Advanced Diploma in Application Development or GIS

Work Arrangement

• Mandatory minimum of two (2) days onsite per week.
• Remaining three (3) days may be worked remotely.
