veritree is seeking a Head of Carbon to lead the strategic development, build-out, and operations of veritree’s carbon business. Carbon is one of veritree’s fastest-growing new revenue lines, and this role will own the strategic function (project sourcing oversight, technology enablement, strategic partnerships, and sales oversight) working alongside the Carbon Specialist, who conducts project sourcing, day-to-day project relationships, and credit retirement. This role owns the frameworks, pricing, sales engine, and systems that let carbon scale. It is a high-ownership opportunity to grow a business line and shape the future of carbon across veritree. This role reports into Corporate Development and will work cross-functionally with Sales, Product, and Operations to build carbon into a durable, high-margin line of business.

Key Outcomes:
1 Month Key Outcomes

• Fully ramped on veritree's carbon business (current portfolio, contracts, and 2026 targets) with key relationships built across Sales, Product, and Operations
• Carbon credit resale process and pricing assessed end-to-end; quick wins identified to improve turnaround and margin on the existing portfolio
• Gaps in veritree's carbon storytelling and sales/marketing materials mapped, informing the “charismatic carbon” content plan

3 Month Key Outcomes

• Carbon growth strategy drafted (including resale enhancement, technology enablement, and strategic partnerships) and reviewed with Justin and leadership
• Resale motion improved on the existing carbon credit portfolio, with measurable movement on pricing, partner mix, or process
• V1 of a carbon inventory tracker live and in use by at least one other function (e.g. Sales)
• Delivery of first sales enablement and/or marketing piece(s) of “charismatic carbon” content (project-specific or portfolio-level storytelling) delivered to support Sales

6 Month Key Outcomes

• A clear carbon growth strategy finalized: strengthening the resale motion on veritree’s existing carbon credits and building out veritree’s “charismatic carbon” narrative (project-specific and portfolio-level storytelling) to support Sales
• Carbon pipeline and inventory fully visible in HubSpot, with forecasting Finance can rely on
• Carbon’s operating model is established end-to-end: portfolio strategy, technology enablement (veritree platform integration, carbon project monitoring functionality built), and 1+ strategic partnership actively progressing, with Carbon Specialist fully supported on day-to-day project relationships and credit retirement
• veritree is on pace to deliver >$500k in 2026 carbon revenue with $750k of 2027 runrate, and a plan is in place for how the carbon function scales into dedicated supply & demand roles

What You’ll Do:

Carbon strategy & growth

• Own the strategic roadmap for veritree’s carbon business, setting priorities across sourcing, sales, storytelling, and technology
• Identify and evaluate new revenue opportunities within carbon resale and monitoring (resale channels, new buyer segments, adjacent products)
• Build out veritree’s “charismatic carbon” narrative, partnering with sales and marketing on material that make the case for carbon as more than a compliance product
• Represent carbon in company-wide planning and ensure the function’s targets ladder up to Corporate Development’s goals

Portfolio development & delivery

• Set the strategy for portfolio construction, working closely with the Carbon Specialist on which project developers and geographies to prioritize
• Provide oversight on due diligence frameworks and scoring systems to ensure a credible, audit-ready portfolio that stands to enhance trust in veritree’s brand
• Identify and execute ways to accelerate the resale of veritree’s carbon credits, including pricing, buyer/reseller partnerships, and process improvements that grow margin and velocity on the existing portfolio

Sales & inventory

• Build and own a live carbon credit inventory system: what's available, reserved, retired, and priced, so Sales always has accurate numbers to sell against
• Own the carbon sales pipeline and forecast, including how carbon deals move through HubSpot
• Define the process for how Sales and BD reps quote, reserve, and close carbon deals to minimize Carbon team support
• Track margin and velocity by project and by reseller partner

Technology enablement

• Partner with the Product team to co-own and manage the roadmap for carbon’s technology needs and integration with our tech stack
• Translate and optimize carbon workflows (sourcing, due diligence, resale, retirement) into scalable and repeatable processes aligned with the veritree’s other business lines
• Ensure carbon’s systems and data can support growth into new buyer segments and resale channels

Team leadership

• Build partnerships that extend veritree’s carbon capabilities (e.g. with carbon project developers or nature-based carbon credit offtakers)
• Act as the reseller lead for larger, more complex carbon transactions
• Provide strategic oversight to the broader carbon team and define how the team’s structure evolves as it scales
  

Requirements

Professional Requirements or Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 10+ years of experience in carbon markets, environmental commodities, or a related sustainability/climate business function
• Strong understanding of voluntary carbon market mechanics (project types, verification standards and bodies, and credit issuance/retirement processes)
• Proven track record of structuring partnerships, resale/brokerage deals, or commercial transactions in a new or scaling business line
• Skilled in building the frameworks, scoring systems, and processes that bring discipline to an early-stage function

Nice to Haves (not mandatory)

• Certifications like GHG Protocol, Verra VCS, or similar carbon market credentials are a strong plus
• Experience with carbon project development or MRV (measurement, reporting, verification)
• Familiarity with climate tech platforms or environmental data systems

veritree ensures that compensation is reviewed fairly and consistently, with opportunities for salary progression tied to sustained performance. As such, the salary range for this role is $120,000 to $150,000 CAD . Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience.

This range is positioned around the 50th-75th percentile of market data we’ve collected, reflecting our commitment to competitive pay. Final offer amounts are based on individual experience and skillset of the candidate demonstrated during the recruitment process.

We reserve the >75th percentile of our salary ranges for internal employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at veritree.
