Field Laborer - Welder

Sperling Industries Ltd. is an industry leader in structural steel manufacturing and mechanical equipment supply and install.  We are looking for an individual to join our team as a Field Laborer/Welder.  We currently have active job sites throughout Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Summary:

Duties primarily consist of physical labour and welding on construction sites. The work may involve new construction, repairs, modifications or additions to structural steel and agricultural equipment.  Basic knowledge of general steel fabrication is an asset.  

Primary Responsibilities:

• Follow instructions from site foreman and provide support to other team members in the construction labor industry
• Create, read and understand all job hazard assessments while following all applicable safety procedures and practices
• Operate hand/power tools (rigging equipment, drills, angle grinders, cutting torches)
• Ability to adapt and learn new tasks in order to progress the on-site workflow
• Load/unload construction materials as well as general site maintenance and clean up

Education, Experience, skills:

• General labour skills in the construction industry are an asset
• Must be able to work away from home
• Must be able to read, write and speak English
• Welding skills with or without tickets or red seal are required
• Must be hard working, reliable, punctual and safety conscious
• Ability to work independently as well as with others
• Available to work extended shifts, night shifts and weekends when necessary
• Must be able to climb stairs/ladders and lift/carry 35 plus pounds on a regular basis
• Certificates related to the steel industry or experience running equipment would be considered an asset.

Compensation:

• Starting Salary $25 - $39 an hour depending on qualifications and experience.
• Overtime remunerated at 1.5x when applicable
• 6% vacation pay and 4% general holiday pay paid on each pay cheque
