$73.4k - $100.9k per year
Full-time

AtkinsRéalis

Job Description

Overview

We are looking for Biologists with at least 5 years' experience to support on biological assessment, monitoring, reporting and field-based surveys across a wide variety of energy and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate must have strong work experience in the freshwater biological sciences, with a specialty in aquatic biology. You will be working as part of the national Biology technical group, alongside other Provincial and National expertise.

Your day-to-day work will include planning and carrying out field surveys, habitat assessment and/or construction environmental monitoring, including identifying environmental risks, preparation of monitoring reports and data reporting against accepted standards.

Our work includes delivering keystone projects throughout their lifecycle: from early assessment of baseline conditions and constraints to strategic development of regulatory approvals processes, to compliance management through construction and operations, as well as developing habitat mitigation and offsetting.

Your role

  • Working as part of an integrated, multi-discipline biological team on all phases of project capture and execution.
  • Provide key knowledge and experience with the Federal Fisheries Act and other relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation in Ontario, as well as Ontario's fish species, aquatic habitats and survey protocols.
  • Planning and carrying out field surveys, habitat assessment and / or construction environmental monitoring, including identifying environmental risks and recommending appropriate mitigation or avoidance measures.
  • Collect and manage field data for analysis and write standalone technical reports or relevant sections of integrated reports with capacity for technical review where necessary.
  • Liaise with regulators or clients on a subject specific basis on project activities or impacts to fisheries and aquatic ecosystems

About you

  • B.Sc., or M.Sc. degree in fish or aquatic-related studies with relevant experience conducting and managing aquatic studies (such as fish and fish habitat assessments, water quality monitoring, fish sampling, etc.).
  • Hold or be eligible for MTO RAQS registration as a Fisheries Assessment Specialist in Ontario.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Fish/Aquatic Biologist in the natural resources sector in Ontario preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Previous experience leading aquatics field work and managing aquatic crews in remote settings.
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous with field notes and methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to write reports.
  • Must have a driver's license for any work travel.
  • Willingness to work in remote locations for extended periods of time and requiring overtime, weekends and variable hours.
